87 944 Testing the waters...Newbie here

I recently came across a 1987 Porsche 944 for sale. It is a very clean White with Burgundy interior. 59,530 orig miles, seller has complete maint history and a car fax report. They are asking $7400. From the pictures it is very nice, looks like its been well cared for. The odometer shows 59530, I have not seen any other 944s with such low miles on them. What do you think? I'm thinking of selling two of my bikes and a VW Bug just to score it. Yeah, I know it will be gone by this weekend. Oh well, guess I'll keep looking and keep trying to convince my other half to let me buy a Porsche LOL. Nice to know there are some nice 944s still out there. I saw another one, not as nice that a kid was selling for $1000 because he did not want to buy a set of plug wires for $120. The 4 Bosch wires for his car are actually $81. Would'nt that be nice, buy a 944 for a grand, put in a set of plug leads and she fires right up! Woo Hoo!

Sounds like a nice example. I recently scored a 38K mile example. The good cars are out there but are often overlooked because at $7K (in your example) folks would rather have a clapped out "turbo" or spend $2-3K on a beater and drop another $3K "improving it".

It likely won't be gone this weekend.. but if you are an ACTIVE buyer, have cash on hand. It may take you weeks (more?) to unload those bikes and Bug. The fact that you haven't unloaded them tells me you are currently just in the "tire kicking" stage. Good luck!

Look for recent belts/wp work.. maybe even a clutch. Clutch jobs seem to cost about $2K (its about 8-10 hrs of labor it seems). Despite low mileage, the rubber centered clutches can fail from age before mileage. Something to consider.

Just know that is pretty much top dollar for a 944. It really has to be close to pristine to justify that cost, IMHO.

Racer--what did you find?
