opportunity...or foolishness ??
I have been offered a '86 944 Turbo in trade for my 76 911 Targa. The targa is a work in progress and is in no way, shape, or form a high dollar car. It runs fine, smokes a bit on cold start-up, a couple of blisters in the paint (which is bright and shiny). The 2.7 has had all the bad junk removed at last engine rebuild. SS heat exchangers, Bursch exhaust, 11 blade fan...blah, blah, blah
The turbo is in great shape except the drivers front fender got crunched a bit behind the wheel. Nothing deep that would impact the frame, but will need a fender. Engine oil seals, belts, rollers, waterpump all done relatively recently (approx. 30K before due again). Paint and interior are flawless (other than previously mentioned fender) What do you think ???

I wouldn't do it unless there is cash plus your car.

Personally I wouldn't do it. You've got all the major problems of a midyear sorted out, so why get rid of it now?
Don't get me wrong, I really liked my 944, and in general I think they're underrated cars. I see from your sig that you're very familiar with 924/944s, so I'm surprised you'd consider the trade. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be the slightest bit interested.

It would include about 2K in additional parts for the 944. The only thing bugging me now is that I found out the the PO (before the guy who wants to trade) drag raced it at least 5 times. So the tranny is probably a time a bomb waiting to explode.
What to do....
