How would you evaluate a not-registered car?

I'm interested in pursuing a couple of cars, neither of which has been registered for a few years since they are either being used as track/DE cars or haven't been driven for the last year. Now, I can appreciate a seller saying "we can drive it in the big-a*s office parking lot across the street", but I'd feel uncomfortable if that was the only initial-view/pre-PPI assessment, given that I have to fly to see either of the cars.

Anyone here BTDT? How do you address that situation?

TIA for your help, as always,

Phil

You have car towed into good shop for a PPI.

I had a car in Minn. inspected at the sellers home by a shop owner who drove there as a motorcycle trip a few summers ago. The inspection and test drive were successful so the car was driven to a shop 100 miles away at my expense for a PPI.

Good Luck

In California, you can buy a one-day permit to drive an unlicensed car on the road. This is likely available in other states.
