question about parting out a car.

Question, how does parting out a car work?

Short story.. purchased low mileage 1974 911 Targa years ago, invested in professionally rebuilt transmission and professionally rebuilt engine with all the updates... Thinking that I can get around to the body/interior work at some point. My bachelor budget supported this concept.

You guessed it. I am now married with a kid and the car is sitting at my parents house waiting for the body/interior work.

I just don't have it in me to restore the body so apparently I have two options.. Find a donor car or part it out.

does anyone have any experience with parting out a car... Can the Engine go as a complete unit? I would hate braking the engine down into parts after I had the Porsche shop update everything during the rebuild.

Dude..

Do sweat it, do a compression check on the engine first as inevitably someone will want the numbers. If you've got receipts/records for the re-build that's great too.

- Remove the engine and trans, sell each as a whole/separate unit.

- Offer the car as a roller (no engine & trans) priced right it should move too.. give 30 days the advertise the parts... this will require work on your part as you will have to remove the parts/ box and ship to buyers.

- Take plenty of pics to post on the "for sale" forum.. & do so with your location. Buyers should be able to see what you're offering and have an idea if it's local or will have to be shipped to them and thus worth the time of each of you to continue.

I would think big bits go best as whole units
ie motor, trans ect esp if resent rebuilds
and are worth more if running then a collection of parts

now things like doors or a dash may go as a unit or in parts
and may even gain a little value by being separated
door metal ,glass, winder, int panel ect
but not much and maybe not worth the trouble

main driver is what the people want to buy
and many want the whole door ect

Is it rusted out? I don't get this.
