1979 930 question

Good afternoon everyone. I am new here and relatively new to Porsche's. Up until recently, I owned an '08 Boxster, but have never owned a 911. We are getting ready to relocate back to Arizona (Scottsdale), and I've decided to buy either an SC or a 3.2 Carrera as a daily driver. I work out of my home for the most part, so it won't be a commuter car, but it will get used almost daily. I stumbled across this car and had a conversation with the original owner yesterday. He is selling it for the 2nd owner. He felt that this car was "too much" car for my needs. I have two questions, 1) is it too much car? and 2) is the $32K price realistic? He said that he has spent a fortune modifying this 930. The Franz Blam total rebuild was performed at 12,000 miles. The description is as follows:

1979 930 Turbo. Original paint, 48,000 miles, Franz Blam 350 HP built motor!

This Turbo is impeccable. I purchased it new, and am offering it for sale for the second owner. It has a paper trail for every service, and part from new. It has an interesting history, its fast, and near perfect. No disappointments!

Thanks for your advice.

I'd say the price is realistic.

You don't mention how you would use the car, but it does "look" too much for just a jump in the car for a 5min ride to Target, for example. Looks more useable for long highway trips or track driving.

Price appears in line. I too would question use and practicality.

Very nice looking car, sure I recall it being for sale here (and on that very driveway) a few years back when I was looking.

Too much car? Any car can kill you. This car could get you into trouble a lot faster than most others, it's true.

Remember the old saw about it being more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow? Lot of truth in that.

You can daily drive a 930 just fine, even a 400HP one - if you can live with the appalling gas mileage and never being able to use a fraction of the performance on public roads. In fact, I believe that all 911's like to be driven frequently, and 930's are no exception.

You seem to be looking for a car to drive. Kudos. The asking price reflects a premium for original condition and mileage. Neither of these are going to improve if you drive it regularly, so that value is just going to go down.

You could buy a car with a lot more miles and put another 30,000 on it without that hurting value as much, in fact any upgrades, properly-performed repairs and maintenance could improve the value.

In Arizona, I can't help thinking I'd be looking for cars with A/C that worked very well. Which pre-'91 911's are not really noted for.
