Insurance Value

What is it Worth?

I have nearly completed the restoration of my 1975 Targa S. I would like to have my insurance coverage reflect the current fair market value.

Here are some specifics;

1975 S (with Carrera Flares)
1983 911 SC Motor (138,000 miles with upgraded chain tensioner, and new clutch)
36,000 original Miles (on chassis)
Original Blue CA Plates
Leather Seats
Targa Top is the (rare) factory hard top not the soft top
Interior in good condition, dash very good condition
Electrical all working
Transmission (original 901) smooth shifting no issues
Exterior Good condition, a few chips

A few photos (sorry for the dog, he thinks the car is his)

You are better off having it appraised by a local appraiser, perhaps someone your INS co can suggest.

imho, a modified '75S targa should be worth less than an original example. I imagine the 75-77 year S targas are $9-15K.. unless extremely low miles and excellent shape which then they could be $20K cars, but no one pays that much for mid-years.

Also remember that, most likely, your insurance will rise since you are looking to pay for a "stated value" vs a book value should something happen.

Thanks for the input but I won't tell the dog. He might bite someone.

PCA has a free valuation service. You fill in the info online then get something in the mail.

Was worth $6k to me. Very well written letter you get.

i always over-insure my cars and never had a problem (though i have never had a total loss claim either). currently my restored 83SC is insured for $35k on a classic car policy with state farm. that was based on my troubles with farmer's insurance when my garage was broken into last year. i lost 2 sets of wheels and tires (dodge and jaguar), all my tools, 2 air compressors and some damage to the jag. total loss was just over $16k and after fighting with them for 4 months i was given $8k total, and even that was doled out in $2k increments (i had to spend $2k on tools, show receipts, then i got another $2k and repeated the process).

FYI - if the trans is original it is a 915 not a 901

901 Original to the 1975 S NOT the 1983 SC motor. Sorry Wasn't clear enough.

I would agree over insure. Hopefully it will never become an issue.

915 transaxles started in 1972 your 75 S would have originally been equipped with a 915 - just trying to help - a 901 would actually devalue your car
