Arctic Blue 911's
Does anyone out there have an "arctic blue" 911? Mind posting some pics? Do you think this color would sell at a premium because they are not that common?

no I don't.. because I don't know what shade of blue it is. Was this a '70's color or a '90s color?

Nice color....
That's a nice shade of blue. I love the older bright colors that Porsche was known for.
What is disturbing to me is to see a special wishes (one's for sale on Pelican, a factory turbo look to boot) that somebody ordered in red!! I know it's a personal choice, and I don't want to offend red car owners, but I can't understand going to the trouble (and cost) to special order a 911 and request one of the most common colors. I could understand the dealer ordering red, white, black, and silver cars - they are stuck to a "known colors that sell mentality," but a special ordered car? If that special wishes turbo look 911SC was Viper green/Arrow blue, etc. it would probably have everybody slobbering over it (heck, I'd even be trying to come up with the coin...). Sorry, I just had to vent a bit. I tried holding out for a "bright" 911 myself, but it seems they are rare enough now to pop up only every few months (and at higher prices) then quietly disappear. I settled for a slightly different pewter color. |

My first 911
Ok, so I ended up picking up this car because it just looked so daammn good with this color. Its an 86 with 47k original miles out of Cali. Color code is supposed to be POR661 - Factory custom to sample arctic blue. I drove both the g50 transmission and the 915 and personally I think the G50 is a bit overrated and the difference is not as great as some people describe..at least it wasn't for me. I just love this color and compromised on the slight improvement in the transmission for the low miles and the sweet blue color.

I looked up Porsche color code site and 661 is "Slate blue" offered in 82-83 911's. I guess you could special order them in the later years though too.

911speedin, you did the right thing. Great color and an '86.............perfect. I like 915 trannys. The '86 Carrera is my fav out of all the 80's 911's.

Nice car. Slate blue and later venetian blue a very similar and in my opinion the nicest color for this era of 911.

Thanks, Cal44. Didn't you just have your '84 up for sale? I was kind of eying that one too.
Why are the '86's your fav? Just because they are the last of the 915 trannys or is there more to it? |
