Value of 1979 Turbo

A friend of mine is trying to sell her deceased husband's turbo. Car has been sitting for 5 years. She just had $4k work of work done to get it running. Wants to know what it is worth. Don't know what type of wheels are on it. Hopefully you can see the attachment. I have not personally seen or driven the car. So cannot comment further except for what you see from fotos. OKay, I could only upload one foto. they take forever to post. I will try to get them on another site and you can look at them.
thanks, aircool

That isn't a 79 turbo. It looks more like a 76-77 due to the lack of an intercooler and the different turbo tail. As for the wheels, they look like Ruf wheels.

930 prices are all over the board, but if you are able to find early 15x7x8 wheels, I think it'll be worth more to collectors in Europe. The car also seems to have a sizable dent in the rt fender as the hood alignment looks off. The car also looks like it was repainted as I don't believe I have seen an early turbo in that color. It looks like the platinum metallic that was first used on the 1980 911sc Weissach Edition.

For a WAG, I'd say the car cold be worth anywhere from $10k to $25k depending on the miles and condition of the motor and the rest of the car.

thanks WPOZZZ.
Again, i only have pics to go by. The hood appears to be sitting on the bra in other pics which I will post. The front fender does look a little off, but could be because of wheel.

It's a 77 turbo.

Macroni 08-22-2010 10:28 AM

very cool car....

DDDD 08-22-2010 12:56 PM

With a 1985 rear third light.

This is without doubt a sub-20 grand car in my humble opinion.

aircool 08-22-2010 02:58 PM

Thanks for all the info. VIN does indicate it is a 77. I passed that on. I am told he was the only owner. Was purchased in San Diego while he was stationed there. Also passed on some of your thoughts re price range. Looks like a good project. I personally do not like the color. Looks like it may have had a repaint to a different shade as WPOZZZ pointed out.

thanks again to all.

looks nice, stock, third brake light odd. Side mirrors wrong, but they look nice. Interior sure looks clean. Hope they are not driving it without the air cleaner attatched. Here is my Stock 1977 california engine.

Just told me she wants $25K for it. Way too high, my opinion.

dhg1337 08-25-2010 08:33 PM

I wonder what $4000 went to get it running?
Needs the Fuchs, this is a vintage vehicle anyway. 25k is too high at this time, bit ruff in spots.

Beautiful engine. What color is your car?

dhg1337 08-26-2010 05:05 AM

thanks, Silver

Not outrageously high...... early turbos have become very desirable.

dhg1337 08-26-2010 10:12 AM

I don't think I would sell mine for 25k. Having to much fun dumping money into it.

Matt Monson 08-26-2010 10:26 AM

It may be a bit high for the local LA market, but for the national market that price isn't too far out of line. While they aren't the end all performance version of the model, the 3.0l non-intercooled Turbo Carreras are starting to pick up steam as a collectible car.

If she put that car on Ebay with a $25k reserve, I bet it would end up in Europe.

Macroni 08-26-2010 06:44 PM

I agree, the 3.0L motor if I recall allows for tax advantage in certain European countries.

aircool 08-27-2010 05:41 AM

I'll see what happens. I told her it was high and she was going to call me back.

wheels

Looks like I may be picking this car up. although I am not a fan of the color. My question is what were the original rims for a 77 turbo, 15s 7 and 8s or 7 and 9s? I've found a set of 15s 7 and 8s. is there a specific offset or code I need to be looking for? thanks for the help.

1977 had 16's, 7" front, 8" rear. Genuine Fuchs have a serial #, fox,and size on the inside of the wheel.
