Sellers: What form of payment do you accept?
Question: I've been thinking of selling some Porsche parts but have never used the Pelican classifieds (or ebay for that matter) to sell anything. For those of you who have sold a lot of parts, what form of payment do you accept, what do you feel is safest?
I did purchase a small item from here a while back and sent the seller a check and everything worked out fine. I have a few pricier things I would like to sell and am not sure if I would be comfortable waiting for a check. What's the popular method? Thanks... |
PayPal. Money Orders. Checks. Very expensive items = wire transfer.

Danny,
Thanks for the reply. If the buyer sends you a check do you find that they are okay with waiting until the check clears? Pay Pal and wire transfer would be better for costlier items I imagine. |
Local deals, cash. Lots of the green stuff changes hands at John Walker's swap meet. For long-distance, I've never had a problem with PayPal.

It's the buyer who is vulnerable, no? What if the item never arrives and the guy disappears? What is the best payment method to protect a buyer?
It's healthy to be slightly paranoid. |
Paypal works good. eBay buyers protection refunded me $200, seller shipped me half the stuff, still got the full refund. Pretty easy.

Paypall for most transactions. Money order from USPS works much better than personal checks. I trust anyone up to about $200 on a buy or sale. Over that, I'm more carefull and like to see higher post count or something that makes me warm and fuzzy. Couple grand or more and I'm driving or flying and pay in cash. Pelican people have been great!
