3.6 Conversion for sale in Toronto (Originally a US car)
I've only bought cars from the US and brought them to Canada, but considering USA and Canada are the largest trading partners on the globe, RE-Importing a car back home to the US cannot be that hard!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/551680-sale-1982-911-sc-3-6l-engine.html Since Ruby is over 25 yrs old, she would be exempt from duty in Canada coming in.... can't be that much going back (if any). So the buyer pays shipping and state sales tax? Anyone have any clarity?

Nice car, but in addition to the general import hassles, one of the issues prospective buyers might have is emissions. For example, in California the car wouldn't be smog exempt, and the process where a motor swap has occurred can be a bit of a PITA.

Agreed, smog is an issue in some states, but it's not an issue in all states. It was registered in Florida and Maryland before Ontario, with no problems.

Indeed, it is a very nice car. I would be very helpful for potential US buyers to understand what is required to import it into the States. Hopefully someone can help you prospective buyers by providing this info. If the car was local (in Va) I would be very tempted.
By The Way, smog is not an issue in Va on a 25 year old car !

Here's the website I always direct people to for info on importing cars to the US from Canada:
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/importing_car.xml From what I understand, it's much simpler going south than going north.

Guys its NOT tough to re-import! Here is what the regulation states:
Re-Importing A Previously Exported Vehicle A vehicle taken from the United States for non-commercial, private use may be returned duty free by proving to U.S. Customs that it was previously owned and registered in the United States. This proof may be a state-issued registration card for the automobile or a bill of sale for the car from a U.S. dealer. Repairs or accessories acquired abroad for your vehicle must be declared on your return and may be subject to duty.

Thanks Danny. This is great info for US buyers, because there are lots of nice cars up here.
Ruby is now sold (to a Canadian), but I think she would have sold in July had another US buyer done some investigations as you have.
