This continues to be a source of much discussion, but wanted to offer up my recent sales experience involving my 1972 911T Targa.

I think the description is pretty fair. Full of history, line by line parts, a few flaws, etc. Right from the beginning, I describe this car as a non-original vehicle. This automatically turns away probably 50% of the available purchasers. I do have several tech articles and projects listed on the board, so someone willing to do further homework could find further information.

Within 4 hours of posting this ad, I was on the phone with the future buyer. 2 hours later, I had a paypal deposit. 2 days later, I was paid in full.

This car went for the full asking price. No dickering. No PPI. I also had several other inquiries, that I never had a chance to speak with in person.

Over/under? I don't know. You guys like to say a car is worth what someone else will pay for it. But it seems to be a good reference for non-stock vehicles with full descriptions, vehicle history and board references.

I think the ad was great.. it was appeared as full disclosure for a car that although not original, was a very clean slightly modified driver. A sports purpose 911. There is a market for those cars too.. especially tastefully done.

Hmm, but then again I'm biased. While I appreciate a very clean & stock early 911, I more enjoy a modified car.

I own a 73S, its modified w/SC flares, Recaro seats, ducktail.. on & on... It was modded way before anyone gave a hoot about the value of an old 911, and much prior to the "sports purpose" look really catching on. I did it because I needed more out of the car, had an SC but liked my earlier car better.

In answering the question.. "Over/under?" its just plain hard to say these days.. the economy has changed a lot, the number of buyers and the overall demand have both dwindled. However, I think someone will still pay what they think is fair for a quality car, and not all buyers are concerned that with #'s matching, correct color etc.. I think that's a different market and buyer all together.

I have noticed a trend in the number of cars being sold to Europe once again.

You can thank Ben Bernanke for that sale. If you hadn't noticed, the dollar sank like stone, almost overnight. I have seen sales skyrocket in the last 3 weeks, all going out of the country, or otherwise speculators.
