Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe 1988

This car is a 3 owner car with all its time spent in Florida.I have the contact info available in order that you may contact the previous owners.The odometer stopped working at 170,839 actual miles is close to 173,000. I have owned it for the past 4 years and have driven it approx 5,000 miles. This car is equipped with a 3.2 motor, G50 transmission,electronic fuel injection,beautiful almost flawless metallic silver and silver gray leather interior, no rips or seam seperation. The car runs out very nice and shifts smoothly, you won't be dissapointed. I have not had any major repairs done on this vehicle and there are not any receipts showing major work done by the previous owners. The orig owners manuel has dealer service stamps up to around 90,000 miles, and receipts for the rest of this cars life. As far as I know this car has never had any major work done. It is all original with only an alpine cd player and the ROH aftermarket wheels as nonoriginal. These cars have a great history for reliability and longevity.

I also have the orig. tool kit, air pump, spare, jack and Porsche custom car cover.

There are minor issues that need attention, such as the leather on the steering wheel is missing but the rewrap kit is included. Some weather stripping around the drivers side door. A couple holes in the head liner but it is nice overall. The front spoiler has damage from parking lot stops rubbing it. There are paint scratches on the sunroof from when the cable broke. The sunroof now functions. The air conditioning blows but not cold it needs work.The engine uses very little oil (Brad Penn Racing Oil) maybe a half quart in 1000 miles, It does have a few drips after a spirited run, 2 spots about the size of quarter. This car is rust free.

Well, by FAR, the single biggest thing is to put the original wheels back on, and retake the pictures. Don't show any pictures with those aftermarket wheels. They are horrible and will turn off 95% of potential buyers.

The next most impt issue in selling will be price. With that many miles and a broken odometer, you're going to need to be realistic. It's not going to be a high price.

The next issue would be pictures. Take and post as many high quality pictures as you can. May not want to have the oil drip pan in your pictures.

The text of the ad seems fine, it reads pretty honest to me.

Thanks for the comments. The asking price is in the ad, I forgot to put it here. I have priced at 18,500 obo. My thoughts were to put the Fuchs back on and retake the photos as well. Am I priced to high and what is a realistic expectation?

Remove tray from under motor.. we all know they leak.. no point drawing attention to it ;)

Get the odometer fixed.. imho, a non working, but fixable item, shows laziness on the sellers part.. if the odo doesn't work, what else might not work or has been 1/2 assed fixed?

What recent service has been done? oil change? trans fluid? brake fluid? pads? rotors? anything?

imho, there are lots of niggling issues, and at nearly 175k miles, I think $18,5 is a very high asking price. I think starting at $16K and realizing that may not be the bottom price would be more realistic.

Well by now you should know what to do with the original wheels...

Since you asked, you might get 14-15 for the car. Ask 15? Be prepared to come down. Remember, you asked.
The statement about not having any major work done etc is odd. Sounds like that something you might be proud of. Or maybe it's just meant to be a disclosure. If so, why not just say original engine/trans. Or whatever. Be brief. Get to the point quickly.
As said before, take those wheels off right away.
Were 6s&7s original on this car? Not sure.
Take pictures of it in a "neutral" setting. Like some park.
If you can afford to do it, I'd get everything fixed rather than assuming you'll find a buyer willing to do the work.
Tough selling a high mileage car in need of some work in this market. Heck it's tough selling any car in this market.
Try your local paper. Somebody nearby is more likely to buy the car than somebody from far away. Try Autotrader too.

Personally, I hate the ads that say only "serious" people need call. That's just totally unnecessary. And off-putting. Can you imagine a store somewhere with a sign in the window saying only serious buyers need enter the store? Heck no.

Thanks for the input, I changed some some of the verbage and removed the pics with the Roh wheels. Here is a couple with the fuchs, I added more pics in the classified ad.

The pricing issue is a matter of do I need or want to sell. This is my first 911 and I never thought I could find another that I liked more. In the end it is just a car and their is always another, like maybe a turbo.

not to be picky, but I'd spray the lug nuts black. You can mask and do it while they are on the car.

it's a clean looking car in a great color combo.

the miles are an issue, esp. without any documented top end or rebuild work. A lot of people are going to assume the engine is tired or needs freshening.

If I were trying to sell, I'd advertise it at $15.9 and try to get as close to that as possible.

Too many miles, with no engine work, to get the price you are asking. Especially this time of year.

With that many miles, unknown history and potential buyers outside your area consider spending $300+/- to do a preemptive PPI yourself. You'll know what you have and a low leak down will suggest at least a top end rebuild. If the results are good post a photo of them in your listing. Mark

IMO when you sell a car get rid of any emotional attachment. Just because its something special to you does not mean it has the same attachment to anyone else.
There is no other way to say it other then the way others have. The price it just not in the ballpark. On a 911 with little history, a non working odo and a number of odds and ends which need to be attended to right away you’re not going to get top dollar. $18k is top dollar for a 170k plus 911 with no motor work done.

So you have an idea:
1988 coupe 20k fewer miles offered at $13k
