Is this hood badge a repro?
 

This was listed as original, but I am concerned that it is a scam. The posts don't seem to have even a scratch, and I can't believe there are any NOS hood badges left out there. Given that you can get a repro orange bar hood crest, how do you know if it is an original vs. a reproduction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a old badge from my buddies 1973 911T, he bought car new so I know its correct. He wanted a new one plus he wanted the new wheel centers that are painted.

So I got both, I will take a picture, but its orange bar (not bright) and the badge has a old patina color that is discolored to like a metal that needs cleaned. Like how old silver or copper needs cleaned.

What would you pay for a original one appox.?

I am concerned that I was set up. I frankly overbid for a pristine original (vintage) orange bar badge. Then I took another look at the pictures. It looks like that badge was never mounted. Looks like a reproduction being sold as an original. I don't want to get burned. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you paid using paypal and a credit card your pretty safe.
and regardless if he has no return policy, as long as you used paypal they will force him to take it back.Just make sure you use tracking with signature.

The most recent batch of orange bar repros I've seen are curved quite a bit. This badge is either real or a superior repro. The coloration of the photo makes it look like the restored badges that come out of Australia -- they have a satiny finish where the original is polished. But there's no way to tell from low quality pictures.

with ebay if even in doubt on anything use paypal and a credit card..

even if it goes past 30 days just call paypal they will open a case for you..
i have over 13000 feedback and have had it happen..A lady bought a water slide used it all summer 60 days, then called paypal and said it was not what she wanted.I was forced to take it back..you could just ignore it and have no money in your paypal account, But they will use debit collectors to recover...
I had to take them to small claims to win....
thats why if you pay with a credit card they will side with the buyer every time.they know
most credit card companies will side with you.
