Car transport Company
I'm looking for recommendations for transport of a 911. Who's got the best pricing?

Most of the supposedly large carriers are actually brokers, including DAS. I've used shipvehicles.com and uship.com in the past and have generally had good experience.

Usually runs $1.00 a mile. Just called InterCity last week. I have used them before and always go enclosed.

Also price differences on Enclosed vs Open trailer. Sticking with the larger companies is usually a "safer" bet as the car tends not to be constantly reloaded on the trailer during the trip. You also don't mention how far you need it hauled or season. Some times of year can be easier/harder depending in seasonal (snowbirds moving cars south for the winter) and event driven (ie national shows/parades/auction houses) that tie up some demand.
intercity is popular. FedEx does auto shipping as well. horseless carraige is another that comes to mind. If crossing a border (into/out of canada) having someone experienced with the paperwork needed to move someones car can be helpful as well. I know folks who go from the US to Canada for racing and proving ownership becomes quite important nowadays.

i just shipped a car from NC to NY using Reliable Transport. Enclosed car trailer, on & off loading with a lift. Great service & communication from the time they picked up the car to the time it was delivered. They picked the car up within a few days of the order & had it delivered in two days. This was my third car shipped & Reliable was the best by far. Little over $1.00/mile.

These guys are great. They are not brokers. They have their own drivers and trucks. They are very good at what they do.

As far as best price, you'll have to do the legwork since prices likely change depending on when and where you're transporting.
As far as service, I'll throw another vote in for InterCity. They did a great job with my Carrera (very courteous, professional, punctual, etc.) plus the driver let me have a peak at the 250 GT SWB California Spyder that was on the trailer when he picked my car up. But that's another story... |

Allow me add one more thing. If your car arrives safely with no damage, don't forget a tip. I usually give a 50. I figure that person just got my car here safely so its worth it to me.
Ever drive one of those trucks? Me neither. |

Don't use DAS, paid for enclosed and didn't get it. Anyone you pick has to be better than DAS

I can confirm what everyone else says about DAS. I think the only reason we know them is b/c they are listed on ebay auctions, not because they do a great job. I think that they must pay ebay a fee for that listing. They should be called POS.

I just used innercity for a San Diego to Boston run and was disappointed. They promised, and i paid for door to door delivery. What I got was delivery a mile away from my house. The roads were wet from a rain storm that morning and I had go pick up my fresh restoratin from CPR in Ca. and drive its freshly detailed under carrage through the rain to get it home.

All the comments were great. I tried hard to work with Intercity but they just could not get a truck to my pick-up location. My pick-up was in Nevada and it was difficult to get someone to go north out of CA. they all travel straight east. I finally got a company out of Washington to swing south through Nevada on there way east. Will see how well they do on the agreed delivery date.

I have been trying to use Alpine Auto Transporters, and am so far disappointed. When I called and booked, I was quoted 5-7 days for scheduling, then 3-4 days en route. We are now at day 9, and still don't even have a truck dispatched. When I ask about this, I get "oh, those were just averages, some take longer". The thing is, I went with them because they were quoting quicker pickup and transit time than the competing bids, now I see that is just "marketing". I've been given some interesting excuses - the "remote" locations of the vehicle (near Washington DC) and destination (central Texas). If that's so, tell me when I'm booking, not when I'm waiting. It's all about setting the customer's expectations!

A word of advice (from experience)....
85% PLUS of all 'shippers' you will speak to are BROKERS , not the actual shippers. When this is the case . DO NOT trust the brokerage/shipping co. to necessarily have accurate insurance information on file . They only have what the trucker gives them. Check up on it , the last instance of this for me , was through A-Z Affordable transport (Southern Calif.) The insurance info. they had on file for some fool (trucker) out of Fresno was incorrect. So after the car arrived and I was dealing with trying to get compensated for damage which had occured , this fool tried to blow me off. And when I contacted the listed insurance (co. ? Ha ! ... it was some insurance BROKER ... NOT the actual insurance co. ) they tried to blow me off also. Luckily , I had photos of the car being loaded (good idea) , and it showed the truckers DOT number. And i'm tenacious. I got the actual insurance Co. information & contact info from DOT. Called them ...got my claim settled. Told them of this insurance Broker acting as if they were the actual main insurance co. (spoke to the Vice-Pres. of the actual Ins. co. , got the broker in hot water with the main Ins. co.). And filed a complaint with the state insurance commisioner to boot. This scum Ins. broker was a friend of the trucker obviously , and would try to buffer him from any claims (stop them from being filed). Main lesson , don't trust...check/verify everything.
