Value of Unstamped 2.2 Engine
I bought a project '71 911T back in January and it included the original engine (chain tensioner failure) and an engine that the guy bought as a replacement. The car and engines have been sitting since 1983. Unfortunately the gentleman had passed away recently and his son inherited the car. The son had not much interest in it and so much time had passed that he could not remember anything about the replacement engine. This engine is a 2r/3r part number case, but there is no serial number nor is there an engine type where that number is usually cast into the case, near the serial number. There is no evidence of the serial number being ground off, so I am thinking this is a factory replacement engine/case. It turns over by hand with compression felt at each cyl but I would consider it a core. Any thoughts on this would be welcome as well as any thoughts on value. An acquaintance thinks that these unstamped cases have some value to folks with E or S cars that no longer have the original engines. I am going with a 3.6 in this car so I don't have a need for this engine. Thanks for any input.

One sold recently on the early registry for little money maybe eight hundred for the case,
until mated with a non matching chassis value is negligible... Wish this was presented only two months ago, actually I may know of someone that could use it seriously do you have a figure in mind? thanks Bert |
I bought an un-stamped 2R/3R case that was advertised here and elsewhere last year for less than $500.
