McQueen's "S"
That's is cool...I was looking around on the web to see what it sold for. We figured it would be over 1mil. judging by the sale price on his Ferrari lusso awhile back. over 4mil.

Nice car. Good history but IMO not worth $1.4mil ( I don't care who drove it or owned it ). The car just became a huge paperweight. It's a shame, the car should be enjoyed and driven. Other than Steve McQueen driving it what else warrants it's price( oh and being in the LeMans movie ). For that type of coin ( at least for me ). The car would have to be a special edition ( a one-off or low production number ) with factory special wishes upgrades..i.e. unique engine , suspension and appearance. I just don't get why people pay such a huge premium for any vehicle just because it was owned/and or driven by a celebrity, athlete or whomever may be deemed famous.

Supposedly the factory bought it using a bidding agent! Will probably go in the museum.
Personally, I'd rather have Jon Voight's LeBaron. |

Yes and then you get Jon Voight's pencil style certificate of authenticity as well!

For $1.4 million I would want Jon Voight's Le Baron and a weekend with his daughter.

My opening line was supposed to read "that's because he's the king of cool" but I agree with you all that 1.25m or what ever the results were, is way over the top. I'm starting to think that some of these buyers of these over priced big buck cars, are the same folks that boast about how much $$$ they lost at the casino on any given night.
God does have a sense of humor! |

The top end of the income scale has rocketed up dramatically, meaning there are thousands of people able to buy a $1.25 million 911 (or a $15 million Testa Rossa) 'just to have it.'
I'm still waiting for the final word on who got the McQueen car. The Porsche Museum, I've heard, is denying it's them. Somebody tried to start a rumor that it was Wayne...

1.4 million I think you could get Jon Voight's Lebaron, the pencil, and Micheal Richards arm. I don't think Richards commands the premium he used to after his rants. FYI I doubt you could get his daughter Angelina Jolie for under 1.5.
Bidding that amount of money seems like iw would be lucrative to track down cars McQueen and others owned prior to being famous using DNA. LOL |

interesting the how much the movie provenance affects the value. if i recall Steve's personal 930 sold a a couple years ago for around $125-150K, but someone may remember better than I on that one.

I agree it's a crazy price. Interesting to see a few years down the road what it sells for next.

True, and remember, Le Mans was a box-office failure. Imagine if it had been a big hit. Would that have increased the bids? Look at what the (3 or 4) "Goldfinger" DB5s have sold for. Up to $4.1 million.

Maybe this buyer then has paid the best price for the future. Just seems hard to imagine the new generation of Porsche owners being Steve McQueen fans down the road....
