maybe new to 911

I am a 944 owner and may be buying a 1988 carrera that has been sitting a long time and may have a blown motor. More info from the deceased owners son this weekend. My question is, what should I expect to pay for a garaged 88 911 thats been sitting for many many years?? Please advise thank you all. Alan

It depends if the motor is blown or not. Over all condition? Any rust? Mileage?

Anywhere from $5K to $25K

Seriously, it all depends on the mileage and condition of the car - especially with regards to rust and engine/transmission. You need MUCH more information on the car AND a PPI before we can knowledgeably advise on prices.

Good luck - 3.2s are awesome cars!

Cheers,

d.

Even if the motor isn't blown, be sure that you have someone check the headstuds and valve guide wear. You may still need to spend $$ on a rebuild even if it runs.

These cars are fantastic however they don't do well if they sit for long periods.

I will know more this weekend, I believe the motor to be no good. The car is supposed to be in perfect shape, the reason I am asking is because he is going to want me to make an offer and I would like to have an idea on the spot, and be prepared for his counter offer.

Well, you're lookiing at $10-15K to rebuild the engine. One of the definitions of chutzpah is to show you a car and expect an immediate offer.

How many years has it been sitting? Considering its 23 years old, there could be many other components that need replacement/rebuiling.. like rubber in the suspension, brake system, gas tank, etc etc. How many miles on the chassis to begin with? What kind of options? (ie, larger Fuchs? M491 body? )

As mentioned, a complete motor rebuild is likely a $10-15K proposition, and even once fully repaired/back to working, might only be a $20K car (or a 10K car), so don't offer a lot.

What you really have is a "roller".. and to me, that shouldn't be more than $10K.
