Help: How to Sell a Porsche 911
Time has come to pass on the dream - kids getting too large, 3 cars suddenly (Nissan Leaf arrived,
its for real!!) and lack of parking space are forcing the issue. Not in a panic to sell, but I don't want it sitting unused for 3-6 months before I finally make a decision. Its an 86 coupe with about 160k, a nice driver in moonstone grey. I spent 2+ years shopping for the car, buying in 2005 after getting lucky with Craigslist, using buyers guides and quite a few PPIs. I'm not sure CL is the most efficient approach today, given the cars increasing rarity/demographics of a potentially interested and able audience. Any recommendations for guides, resources or places to post would be useful. Any comments on using agents/dealers or other recommendations (SF Bay Area) would be terrific too. Thanks -Todd

Attend a DE; a lot of P-car people, and some may want a driver. (Make sure you can get in ahead of time; you may have to be a friend/crewmember of an entrant.)
Go to EASY 1st or 3rd Sat. AM. Talk to Jim &/or others. Fantasy Junction - Bruce may or may not be interested in such a "lo-buck" car, but he has good buyers, and is a straight shooter.

Seems to me just post it on this site. I got many serious replies after only 8 hrs to buy mine. I was not selling it cheap either. I also like Craigs list. I came to my senses and did not sell it.

I would list it in all the free spots first.
Pelican and some 'other' parts places also have listings. Excellence PCA if you are a member. Rennlist, again if you are a member? Next, depending upon your stomach for odd ball emails and responses try Craig's List; it is free and probably hits the largest audience. I have bought or sold 4 or 5 911s there over the years. You sometimes get crazy people doing what they do best! Not sure Hemmings or autotrader are worth the investment for an 86 with 160k miles no matter how nice it is. Good luck!

Hey thanks, all great ideas. Been getting some PMs of interest, I clearly need to create a data-sheet, way too many details without some organization.
Road tripping this weekend with the car, we'll see how I feel on Monday ![]() -Todd

Keep it! You spent 2+ years looking. I know the old "don't want it to sit unused".. but if my dad was like that, he would never have kept his 914-6 for 40+ years! You owe it to yourself to find a way to keep it.

I've visited carsauto.com (Cars Dawydiak) and clicked on a particular grey 86 911 countless times over the past few weeks and finally went to see it yesterday only to find they had just sold it. Then today as I looked thru a year's worth of posts on this forum I came across this posting. Small world. Sorry I missed seeing your car in person, it looked very nice online. As a seller, how was it working with them? Seems they get some nice cars so they're one source I keep checking as I begin my search for my 1st 911.

I see you say you are road tripping this weekend. I don't know where that is taking you, but if it's somewhere in the north bay, swing by Sears Point with it for a bit and park it. There's a NASA event there with a lot of Porsches entered. It's both Saturday and Sunday.
Other than that, put it in the Pelican classifieds.
