911 Sportomatic: are they valuable or Just Rare?
I'm wondering about the 70s Sportomatic 911s.
I know they were not very popular and were discontinued in 78 or so. It seems that are not very many out there, but the rarity, it doesn't seem that they are very valuable. Who has one? Who has driven one and likes it? What is the average value for a sportomatic in good original shape? Any comments are appreciated! |

From what I can tell, people that have them or have driven them LOVE them, those who have not driven them do not like them.

Sportomatic
I had one back in the late 80s ,a 1969 911E TARGA SPORTOMATIC WAS AN INTERESTING CAR AT THE TIME , 4 SPEED TRANS MFI WITH ALL THE SPORTO PARTS IT WAS ACROWDED ENGINE COMPARTMENT , RAN THE SPORTO OIL PUMP OFF A SPECIAL ADAPTER ON THE MFI SIDE TRANS USED THE ENGINE OIL FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER CIRCUIT AND GEAR OIL ON THE DIFF SIDE . They are actually quite reliable , never had an issue with it at all . I sold mine toa guy from AUSTRALIA and he shipped it back there and did the right hand drive conversion.

they are rare and "will" be valuable due to that fact. just because they are under appreciated doesn't mean squat! they are the grand daddy of the PDK!
they are an ingenious development that is greatly misunderstood these days. but they will come! Vic Elford pulverized the competition back 68 on the race track. read it up in Excellence was expected.
