How much for a rebuildable 3.2 engine?
Lets suppose I got a foolish notion to rebuild a 3.2 engine.
a) How much could I expect to pay for a rebuildable engine? b) When your buying an engine 'core', what exactly would be included? c) How much $$$ should I expect to budget for specialized tools I might need? Thanks all. |
Not exactly an answer, but if it helps, I just paid $3000 for a crates 82 3.0. Came with complete exhaust, fan/alt, plug wires, wiring harness, but no intake. 154k miles, good compression and leakdown (all under 10%). I think both the seller and I were happy with the deal.

I'd say 3K to 3500 is probably fair. It is likely worth more than that in parts. Only problem is you are looking at probably 7K to rebuild it, for a grand total of 10K. At that price I'd be tempted to find a 3.6 I didn't have to rebuild.
As the owner of a rebuildable 3.2L, in hindsight that is probably what I would have done. You do have the advantage of having a fresh motor post rebuild though. What would the 3.2L be going into? If I were buying one I would want: 1) the DME with wiring harness to engine, altitude sensor, relay, and the tachometer. For a list of tools I would check out Waynes engine rebuild book, it is worth its price in gold. Infact if you don't have a copy already I would read it and see if an engine rebuild is a project I wanted to tackle before purchasing an engine. |
