Looking at buying this car from an older friend, be bought it back in 2002, and it was been sitting for the last 2 years, we got it out of storage and its running pretty good.

VIN: 9116200718

I know this car has been raced at Brainerd international raceway, it has have multiple owners use to have a racing seatbelt harness. has 153xxx miles on it. i have quite a bit of paper work on it and it says something about at 115,000 a Front mount intercooler was installed and also something about turbo tie rods.

please let me know what you think and questions you have.

Looks like a car from the seventies (78 or 79 possibly) that someone has converted to a "Turbo Look" by adding flares. The wheels and engine are not original either. Find out what all has been done to it. Most of the time a Porsche will lose it's value once you start altering its originality.

What are you looking to get out of it? A track car, a driver..?

this is a 1976 911s i was looking to restore the interior and get a new paintjob. but i dont know if that is worth it anymore.

what motor is in here? it says 911s on the motor so how do you know its not original?

It has a 911 engine in it, but perhaps from a different year. The red shroud over the fan was found on cars from 78-83. A 76 would have a green shroud. A 78-83 3.0 liter engine is not a bad thing , it's a better engine than the earlier 2.7. Carbs would not have been original on any 911 after 1974 (I think).

If you look near the base of the fan on the right side you will see the engine number (near the oil temp sensor). Also look for rust! Check under the battery, the door sills, under the headlights.

Take it to a mechanic that knows air cooled cars and ask for a pre purchase inspection (PPI). Also, check out a book called "The Used 911 Story".

quesiton: what is the thing that both the silver hoses are leading into?

That is your heater blower fan. It forces air from the heat exchangers into your cabin to keep you warm and toasty.

the engine number i got from the engine is 6460728. let me if anyone can decode this for me.

from what i found online the 646 engine code number is from 1976 911s which would make it an orignial engine....

Since it is a NA car, you won't have a FMIC. However, it may have an auxiliary oil cooler. Check the rt front fenderwell in front of the tire.

i stand corrected, i figured it wasnt a FMIC, but it is a Lemke oil cooler kit. gonna have to check it out, purchase price for this car is 8,000 any opinions on price?

Depending on how well the flares were done and if they are steel, I would value it between 7k - 9k. Looks like a lot of work.
