Nice SC on Ebay - anyone care to guess the final price?

On my watch list:

Porsche : 911 Porsche : 911 | eBay

I don't know the market for these cars that well, but I know what I like..... and I seem to have expensive tastes.

Looks like a real nice stock (SSI's ?) non-sunroof low mileage in SC.
I say it tops off at $26K

Apparently this one has a "Protect Plate" that tells what the options are. I thought that was only on vintage Chevys.

Anyway, it's a very rare configuration. Could be there's a club racing series somewhere that would give an advantage to a low-option car.

But I'll be surprised if it breaks $20K.

...and someone please explain what a 'factory light weight' code is for a 78?
How is it different than a run of the mill 78 Euro which regularly came with no sunroof or a/c.
They were in fact lighter in that they had smaller rear bumperettes, and hollow bumper brackets instead of the impact shocks.

Is it a 'light weight' or just lighter? Premium for the miles, but that's about it. Still needs lowered, rear splash guards taken off, and 7&9's to be even considered in the 'what I like' catagory....but like they say, there is an ass (or uneducated sucker) for every seat!

Already at $20k with a week left on the auction. It needs a few things to be 'great' (wheels, etc. as renntrade mentioned) but it's the best SC example I've seen in a while for sale.

I don't know, this dealer has a history of getting crazy money for his cars. I am pretty sure this car bid to $27K the first time. I contacted him directly (to figure out if this was a special car or just a low option car) and he wants $35K for it, and thinks it will be coming shortly. He is under the impression that all cars came optioned, and you had to 'delete' them to get a car like this, and not the other way around...LOL!

Chrome windshield seal/headlamp ring/rear windshield seal and black window trim? I don't think they ever came from the factory that way did they? Either way, it looks terrible, IMO.

Actually, the North American importer decided US-bound SCs would have power windows and sunroofs. It would have taken the buyer some effort through the dealer (or a motivated dealer if not a customer-ordered car) to special order the listed SC. That, however doesn't make it worth a 100-200% premium over other SCs IMO.

Also, I believe bright trim was an option on early SCs, though it was all-or-nothing.

That's what I always think about this dealers ads. They are always way up there, and paced evenly throughout the auction, not all at the end, like bidders actually trying to win are usually.

That is a nice car and the config is indeed rare for a US model. Will easily bring 25k I would think.

Some of you guys forget a lot of people want the best and will pay to get it.

In a few years this car will seem cheap!

The seller has chosen to make the bidders private. That's an unusual tactic. When bidders are not 'private,' you can check to see what percentage of a specific bidder's bids have gone to that seller over time.

Maybe there are a few people who want to pay $20K+ for this car. Maybe not. If not, there's a good chance we'll see it withdrawn from the auction. When there's a reserve in place, bids below the reserve can be placed with no liability to the bidder.

No previous auction car from this guy has hit his reserve.

I can live with that, since I never actually bought a new SC myself, but you miss my point. The guy is marketing the car as some sort of special factory light weight car when almost every euro car came like this and were even lighter due to the lack of DOT weight (smaller bumperettes, no impact bumper shocks, inner door reinforcements, etc).

The ad, the dealer and bidding nature are over the top....is my point.

Almost 26K

Wonder if we will see it re-listed a few days later.

If they are genuine bids the seller sure has done a good job at cashing in on peoples emotions in terms of both "factory" and "lightweight".
