A 66 911 on EBay
There is a very rough 66 911 on eBay presently and the bids are over $20k.
Here is the link: Does this price seem high to you folks? I have not been following early prices so really do not know myself. But I did see that Bruce Anderson stated they are on the rise. Last edited by barlowdo; 03-14-2012 at 04:27 PM.. Reason: Add link |

The VIN and other features show that it's actually a very early '65, and it may be numbers matching. Hence the price.

Thanks !
If its a early 65 that would explain quite a lot. BTW - what did you notice about the body that differentiates it from a 66? Is it the grill on the engine lid and the Chrome lettering? |

The VIN, the small ignition switch surround, the non-wraparound kneepad, the front latch panel are all "tells" of a 65.
By the way, the Jackie Stewart with nice patina is an added bonus in my book. |

Thanks for the "Tells" ! I do not think I ever knew those differences. It still has five days to go. I hope it does not rust away before we get there. But I guess rust is not as much an issue on a 65.

It's a early '65 production car...it's the 824th 911 ever made.
These very early '65 production cars have been fetching high prices lately, probably because the 232 '64 production cars are in the stratosphere now. Here's a basket case shell (VIN # 300279) without an engine that went for over $16K last year: VIN: 300279 - Porsche : 911 1965 rolling chassis serial # 300279 |

How many 65 and 66 911's were made? I doubt there were that many.

The guy posted some pics of his VIN plates and the color code. It was originally 6405 which is Champagne Yellow.

The brakes seem to have come on around $25,000.

Is that other "66" on eBay a 65 also? If I could read the number correctly it is 300430

Yep! That's an early '65 also! But it has a '70 911E engine. Has anybody found out if the white one actually has matching numbers?

Why are these two cars showing up in the ads as '66?
Just a mistake on the part of the owners or is EBay lacking a category for 1964,65 911's ? I will answer my own question. It appears you create a year for your car if there is not one. The reason I say this is that there is now a 1901 Porsche on Ebay. ![]() Well it went for $41,256.98 last night and I was not the buyer. Wish I had been the seller. Probably a 66 would go for half that. Last edited by barlowdo; 03-20-2012 at 05:44 AM.. |
