Stripped Gas Tank Advice
I pull a fair number of cars out of long term storage. I've learned the hard way that the little rust gremlins like to get into the fuel system from old tanks and make good engines run bad. I've started stripping them by chemical dipping. It strips everything off and out of the tank. My mechanic seems to think that it just needs to be rinsed with gas then filled and used.
It seems to me that it should be lined or treated somehow since I'm thinking the raw metal would rust real fast. Even in a closed tank with a 1/2 tank of gas. Any gas tank gurus out there with credible info. I thank you in advance Rick CaliforniaPorscheS.com |

Rick - I have a local radiator guy who repairs these for me and seals them with a product called Redcote.

Hi George
I took a couple of more tanks to my stripper and queried him about coating the inside. He said after the nasty dip they coat the inside with some kind of phosphate. He said
no reason to do any other coating. Have you heard from our friend up north? Rick |
