What's it worth - '70 Widebody updated conversion with 3.0L
 

Hey guys, I may be selling my 1970 Widebody conversion to help with business funding, trying to figure out what it's value is.

Started life as a 70 911T but was converted to a later style turbo look in the 90's.

It's all metal, with Porsche factory turbo tail - car was stripped to bare metal about 3 years ago and fully resprayed in Carrera GT silver. Paint is very nice, except for a couple scratches in the RF bumper, and a rock chip here or there. Has upgraded H4 headlights.

Interior was completely redone as well, new leather seats, door panels, headliner, custom white-faced gauges, high end audio system with MB Quartz speakers, Dynamat everywhere and new carpet.

Engine is 3.0L from an 1981 911SC, I was told it had 80k on it when I bought it 3k miles ago. It runs really strong - has SSI Heat Exchangers, and the CIS has just been gone through. Recently pulled to fix some oil leaks, has brand new alternator and brand new SACHS clutch/PP and Koni Classic struts.

Currently running polished Fuchs like in the trunk photo, 15" by 7's and 8's with spacers.

Also interesting, the car was factory A/C, still have the BEHR unit in smugglers box and some other components.

So, a ton of money has been spent on this car by the previous owner and then by me. The only bad things are that it could use a new windshield seal and both windows are hard to roll down, although they seem to work fine. Also, the car has a branded title which may or may not matter to a buyer - it was stolen (not hit) and stripped sometime in the 90's, hence why it was rebuilt to the widebody specs.

Anyway, what do folks think it's worth?

This is going to be hard to value. Lots of buyers will not want any rebody and the title issue.

Having said that if the work has been done well obviously the car has a value. Right now I couldn't say more than somewhere between 10k and 20k.

Do you have receipts/proof of all the work done.

Thanks. I have receipts for mechanical things like the clutch and alternator. Other things are what they are and you can see them visually, like the koni's, Fuchs, refinished interior, etc. I have photos of the bare metal, windows out restoration and respray as well as of the car before, which was still pretty nice.

Prospective buyers would value this car by comparing to factory turbo look and conversion cars. Non-original 3.0 turbo looks can usually be purchased for low teens. 3.2 carreras converted should be mid-teens and a really well done car with g50 should be high teens.

I would maybe consider parting it out if you couldn't get into the mid teens for this car.

The only upside is that this car is smog excempt in CA. Are you in CA? That would be the best market to sell it in. I also think it is in the teens - I'd say $15k tops. What really does decrease the value is the salvage title and the fact that it is a new body style now, converted to a short hood. It would fare better as a long hood T with a 3.0 conversion ...

I'd just put it on the market for whatever you'd like to get and see what interest you get. Advertising is practically free these days.

Tough car to sell. $10k if you are lucky. Unfortunately all the hard work and money on mods has just devalued it. As mentioned above its probably a parts car what with the mutilation and the title. epay no reserve and see:) GLWTS

Definitely worth more than $10k IMHO just in parts. What does a decent 3.0 sell for these days? It may be a good back-date candidate for an RSR or IROC car. If it had records on the engine and some nice Fuchs it would be a plus too ... ;)

Worth way more than $10k just as it sits, even though it has been "molested". It appears to be professionally "molested" and to the right buyer that car is worth $15-20k. Probably not going to be a Porsche hardcore that cares about longnoses. More like going to be someone 30-45 years old that likes how it looks and drives and is probably getting their first P-car. May take a while to sell, but there's a buyer for this car and selling it is probably a lot less work than parting it out.

The money here is definitely in parting it out.
