Early 912 wood steering wheel value
Hello all, this wheel came in my 67 912. What kind of value do you think it has?
Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That is a beautiful wheel, but it looks like the spokes have been refinished which may hurt the value.

Yes the spokes have been repainted and not very well. Definitely could use a repaint. What do you think it's worth as is?

912 steering wheel
Hi, I like this steering wheel. Would you think about selling it?
Thanks, Scott |

That wheel will give you splinters. Seal it in a plastic bag -- better double bag it to be safe -- and ship it directly to me. I'll provide you with a nice, smooth ebonite wheel that will never give you a splinter, free of charge.
OK, it's definitely a valuable wheel. If it came in my car (one did come in my '67 912) I would keep it. Even if you decide to use a different wheel for driving, hold onto the wood wheel. If you decide to sell it, however, I'm a taker. - Matt

That's a tad ambitious, in my opinion. It needs a repaint, which means the wood may have been refinished by the same ... er ... guy. A correctly restored wheel may fetch $1500, but a wheel with wrong paint, potentially wrong wood finish, and a flattened horn button will be $1000 or just under. You can always put it out there for $1500 and wait for takers, you never know!

Wow, I'm quite surprised (pleasantly); I had no idea it was worth that much. Like I said, it came on my 67 912. I have since put on a Nardi that I like better, will unlikely go back to this one (I'm not really a "purist", I just enjoy what works for me). I could keep for now to maintain originality with the car like Matt says; $1000 on the other hand is also quite tempting. Thanks all for your inputs and opinions. Hey Matt, you had me going there for a while with the splinter deal, LOL.
