Hans S. Mandt Tub
Trying to determine what this might be worth. Obviously, it will depend on a very small market that is looking for something rare and understands its intrinsic value. The owner, who is looking to sell the tub, is the son of Hans Siegfried Mandt, IMSA Mechanic of Year 71-73. He was the driving force behind the highly successful Brumos racing team as well as Toad Hall and Ecurie Escargot racing teams.
The shell has been sitting indoors since the early 70s when Hans was the chief mechanic for Toad Hall Racing. He had evidently started this car as a spare to their race car but never finished. It is built on a 71 rust free chassis (there are a couple of places of surface bubbles under the paint). The front flares are factory ST that have been perfectly welded into place while the rear flares are fiberglass also perfectly bonded. The car is titled but the A pillar and the front ID plates are missing. Great start for someone interested in a chassis built by a legend. What car now houses the vin numbers? What add on race details are installed? Who's name is title in? What are ur thoughts of value? I'd say there needs 2 b a lot more research and info to determine any real value. Was this car ever one of the real stable, any documented race history? Or just a parts car which is how it looks now without a lot more info.

So, I'm sure the next question will be "What proof is there?" It doesn't really matter if all we are trying to do is get a ballpark on what the car is worth. I expect some lowballs because that's the nature of some people. So that leaves those that look at it as just a rust free '71 with some unique parts and those that apply another standard to something built by someone with history in early 911 racing. There has been a good bit of interest and I'd like to resolve this by getting a fair value on the tub. That said, we're ready to listen. Thanks for the help and here are some additional pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
