Pricing for "odd mods"

today in the for sale section there are two cars that I'd call "odd mods" - one is a cabrio "conversion" (!?) and the other looks like a long hood that has been forward dated to SC accordion bumpers and short hood configuration.

I personally would price cars like this at a significant discount to straight, unmodified cars of similar vintage / condition. But that's just me. OPinions ?

An updated longnose with ib will take some hit but is still desireable and reversible. There are a lot of them out there and they are frequently purchased and undone.

A cabrio conversion will be a really hard sell unless it is factory caliber work.

I remember years ago almost all the long hoods had at least the rear update. It was desirable at one time. Reversible as has been said.

Yes, significant discount. However, we've seen even '69Ss converted to short hood, so the underlying car is part of the equation.

Note there were several different ways to convert to short hood. The worst/cheapest/cheesiest way is the most reversible. The high quality conversions used the front tub section from a later car and cost thousands more to "rightdate."

Cab conversions were popular in the late 80s. Momentarily. Some were done using flat iron bars to make the top frame instead of the elegant and pricey factory framework. They are a hard sell now.

The 3-time loser in the modified world is the slantnose widebody cab conversion, which seemed always to be done on a '76 or '77 Targa. Most of those should be considered parts cars.

Heh... still better than a slantnose widebody Targa though ;)

I guess I am old enough to remember when all my buddies that had longhoods so wanted to make em look like an impact bumber car. They bought the rear section fron tweeks and sought out short hoods and fenders. Wish I had those fenders and rear parts now they were mostlikely thrown away.
