Found car scary price

I've been posting here at pelican
For six months for a 2001 996 coupe in Zanzibar Red to replace the one I sold a couple years ago
Crazy but the current owner
Emailed me, he wants $40,000
For the car ( it's a c2)
Wow that's a lot dough for s 996 !
He loves the car as much as me.
Most of you will say no way !
Any opinions or options ?

Seller thinks you're desperate and wants to violate your wallet. People can need a lot of things (a lawyer, a doctor, a kidney). You want a Zanzibar car. Maybe tell him that you're willing to pay a bit more for Zanzibar paint but you won't die without one.

Well, that is a lot of money for that car. I'd say "thanks, but I'll wait until I find one more in my price range", smile and thank the seller for his time.

He's probably not dumb and must know his car is not worth 40k (2001, right?). Yet he's blatantly trying to take advantage of your situation (desperately searching Zanzibar). I would return the favor by a counter offer at 14k and then go from there...

Lots of options if you know how to negotiate. Yes, I negotiate with those that tell me there is no leeway possible all the time.

Tell him you are considering buying a 20001 (any color) for $$$$$ and having it professional repainted for $$$$. Tell him you would consider his car for somewhere in that neighborhood .

Just put a fair number out there that you wanna pay and move on.

Get over the color and move on.

Throwing a lowball at his highball is only going to create a walk. Guy has the car in the color you want, do you really want to close the door in the future? Taken you six months to get someone on your doorstep don't slam it shut.

Please take no offense, but I would limit my public posting on how much you are jonesing for this color seems you have expended a lot of energy and post already. Sometimes the best opportunities appear when you aren't really looking.

A couple years ago, I saw a Zanzibar car go for thousands under "market" because the dealer that had it thought the color was unsellable. No 2001 996 is worth $40K. Maybe 1/2 that. Let the seller do a reality check. Time is on your side.

The car for $ 25,000 was considered I called them
and contracted their service
Dept to do a PPI at a cost of
$ 350 , the general ssles manager ( bob Hogan) halted the inspection during the techs work
He told me he would not allow it ( even though the service writer ( Jose) had taken the work order and my credit card for payment.
They refused to take addional
Pictures or do OBC read outs
That car does have a carfax
Report of accident and a fellow Pelicanites looked at
Car and found the passenger side door. Appeared different color/ over spray in wherl well
It has no service records
While posting here the genetal man who owns my old car saw my posts and
Emailed his encouragement
To find a Zanzibar colored car and all he went through
to find the one he has
We put teo and two together
and turns out he had my old car !
It's not for sale but

Sounds like if you held out enough cash for your old car, you could get it. Sounds like the best plan.
