SCs being sold over $20k? really?

I see a lot of SC's, both coupes and targas being sold here and at other sites for either right around or over $20k. Are people actually paying over $20k for a decent SC? Bruce Anderson has them between $18k-$24k on his latest price guide. Is that the reason why?

Owners of SCs all know these are $20k cars, whether you pay that amount now or get there once it is well sorted, but is the market for SCs really on the uptick?

I would pay 20k any day for a bone stock, fully documented and well maintained SC with under 100k on the clock.

My own "rare color" ´82 Targa would probably fetch 35k+ Euros.......

That pricing is vey sain in my book as decent "daily driver" 911T is 35k+.

Should have sold stocks and bought old 911´s...oh well.

This is a tough one. There is the ask and then the buy. So do we ever know what the buy was?

I have to say I am a bit on the fence concerning the prices, as a looker with cash.
I have the fondness in '84 thru '86 Coupes.

Prices seem to be all over the map. And honesty is getting harder to come by.

Dealers should have a bounty out on them for all the half facts and lying.............

Yes, I absolutely believe that the right SC's are now selling over $20K.

Low mileage, desirable colour combo cars will bring that nowadays without breaking a sweat.

Perhaps techweenie or others can chime in with first-hand evidence but I am sure this is the case.

Here's an example from eBay that ended at $28K:

I dont think that is a 26k mile car - the seats look awfully "worn-in" and "shiny". And as far as I know the 85mph tacho was not for the ´82 model....!?

A lot of hustlers out there right now because of the highly elevated prices. I would watch out!

The seller must have used a gallon of Spar Boat Varnish on that poor Targa

Yes, a note from Techweenie is always a plus on this topic.........gives me a feel for the L.A scene (and be scene).

I love the last line in the text " This vehicle will not last once it hits the Porsche forums!!"

just amazing to claim the low miles when the Autocheck says differently on their very own auction page. I hope the buyer will be a little more scrupulous before writing the check.

My (U.S.) 1982 has an 85 mph speedo - a sign of the horrid post Carter era.

+1 on the "hustlers," if I were an overseas buyer I would be very careful. I think Techweenie mentioned he recently saw many "rough cars" waiting for container space to make the trip across the pond....

I looked up the values on Nada on my Targa, values of the targa are about $1,000 more than the coupe.

$20K Low retail
$23K Average retail
$32K High retail

Now I don't get this.

95 993

$16K Low Retail
$25K High Retail

This is exactly my point. Why get an SC when you can get a nice Carrera or a decent 993 (they are out there somewhere) for close to the same amount of money?

Also, besides the above e-bay example, can anyone here confirm they were paid over $20k for their SC when they sold it?

Now I do understand that a bone stock fully documented and well maintained SC with under 100k on the clock will fetch upwards of $20k but the reality is that these cars are 32+ years old and the likelihood that they have exchanged ownership multiple times is very likely and records, mods, mileage and care will make these SCs average condition cars than the former.

So I will rephrase, is the average SC going for $20k or over?

Last 993 I spotted for sale was for $20K, over 160,000 miles, all the window seals were shot and the paint was faded down to the primer on the roof.
Doors/Fenders had plenty of dings/dents.

It sold in a few days...

I agree the bone stock full documented is fair at $20kish, IMO.

Are the average non-stock, higher mileage examples going for that? I don't think so.... Asking prices might be high, but I don't think they are selling for that. Also just my opinion.

Always interesting to check into this thread once in awhile:

It sure feels like prices on nice air cooled impact bumper cars are rising.

You can definitely get a 993 with 120k miles for $25k. I would pick a decent 993 with over 100k miles over an SC with the same miles as well assuming it's well maintained.

Although a heavily optioned maintained 95 993 with 120k miles just sold for $35k on RL.

They are going up as well for the nice ones. The ones that languish are usually rough in person.

I have noticed that they are on the rise too... but only on the forums. You can still find cars out there in regular channels for mid teens.

The 30 year cut off for higher export tax is now 1983. Last year of the SC....it is no coincidence.
