With decent longhood 911's going for so much money these days....
this is what you see.
People putting cars that would normally have been allowed to rust away into oblivion on Ebay and trying to make some money.
For most normal people, this car would appear to be a total writeoff.
You would need at least $40k to weld in all new panels and give the car a good paint job.
Somewhere on the Early S registry was a good estimate of what it's going to cost to bring this car back.
In excess of $100k.
Most people would run not walk away from something like this.
But after they put their $100k + into the car, they will turn around and try to sell it for $150k.
Just a sign of the times as the longhood market has gone into frenzy mode.

Hmmm...

I found a '67 Targa that is actually in better shape than this but looks like it suffered a minor, really minor, front hit. Overall it's a bit less complete, no targa top/few scavenged trim pieces, but the rot is about 25% of what's shown here.

I've been trying to get in touch with the owner, who is a renter, and his landlord is pissed about his "junk" car. Guess I should try a little harder huh?

Yep. Back during the Ferrari boom a while back people were fixing up anything and throwing it out there for top dollar. I think we're going to see that with longhoods now as well - marginal 911s getting slapdash "restorations" and dumped on eBay.

Longhoods are becoming the new 356. If you have the skills, equipment and shop it can make a good project and either net some cash return for your labor or a nice '70 to drive around.
Not everyone has to pay a tradesman to do the work to the tune of $100K.

Ever price out a rusty 356 tub? A small fortune just to have a car to start with. So is the longhood destiny. The longhoods are now reaching that 356 stature in collectibility and value. Realistically, you could buy this car, stick it in a garage for five years and make more then the asking price. In parts alone it has value. I see thousands in the seats, dash, guages, doors, hood, glass, etc, etc, etc.....................
