9's vs 8's

Hello,
What is the relative value difference between Fuch 16 x 9's and 16 x 8's (rear offset) in like conidtion?

Thanks in advance.

Since 9s are less common, they are worth more. I see pairs of 8s going for $800-1200, depending on condition/finish. I see 9s going for $1500-2200, also depending on condition.

There are still 245/45R16 tires available for the street, so 9s still trade high, due to rarity.

Gotta respectfully disagree. If the 8"s are 911 offset they are worth more than 9"s. If they are 944 offset then they are worth less.

I know recently I had to give $200 and a excellent set of 9's for a set of good 8"s. Also not sure of the benefit of 9"s? They look the same externally and I believe both can run either size tire?

Yes, 8s (911 part #ed ones) are harder to find, and command a higher price, but 225/50/16 is about as wide as you really want to run on 8s to maintain a proper sidewall (not bulging, but vertical to maintain stiffness) while 245/45/16s are what you run on 9s.

Hmmm, I haven't seen that. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open. I see sets of 7+8 x 16s going in the $1500 range (and sometimes less). I very rarely see pairs of 9s going for less than $1500.

Make sure they are the 911 offset. I believe the 911 8"s are much rarer than the 9"s. Didn't they only come on early (pre 78) Turbos and as an option on very late 3.2'?

I will for sure keep my eyes open on that.

I'm still scratching my head over this one. I could not find a single pair of 16x8 Fuchs that sold for more than a pair of 16x9 Fuchs, other than a pair that had been freshly refinished by H.W.

The 16x8s that seem to attract the attention are the 951 wheels with the 23.3 offset. Those guys seem to trade hands for significant coin.

I don't think the 8s are more rare. I think there are about twice as many out there as there are 9s.

But the selection of tires to fit the 9s is ridiculously small (1 ultra performance? 1 DOT legal track? 1 Grand Touring?) While the list of tires @ 225/50-16 is quite long.

I think the limited tire selection is making 8s more popular.

I have a set of 16x7, 16x9 I'm looking to sell if anyone is interested.....pm me

That was my impression as well. I went with 245/50R16s on my 9s, and the overall diameter seems about right. The speedo agrees within 2% all across the ranges of speeds that I tested, but different tire makers have different ideas about where they start measuring the tread to calulate width and aspect.

I agree - there are way more 8s out there than there are 9s.

I've had 'em both. 8s are nice, for sure, but I love my 9s! I like them for their unusualness, and the 245/45 tire size.

I know there are more tires available for 8s, but I've never had a problem getting 245/45 for my 9s. I have good Bridgestones on them now, and the Bridgestones have become available again, so all is good. I don't need any R or track tires.

OK, standy by for a trade effort.
