Insurance

Anyone ever insure a porker for a kid?

Mines approaching driving age. I’ve done something right - he wants a stick and after the TT he’d love a porker. He doesn’t ask for much and he’s a good kid so I’m good with dropping the $.

I’m in the fortunate position that I can get him a decent example of a 944 or a boxster and have him write it off without it materially affecting my life. Worse case, but still...

I’m not dropping more than that price range unless he comes up with the difference, but let’s not devolve into comparative parenting.

Drifting to the point - anyone ever do this? Am I actually going to be able to get insurance for him and how badly will I get raped? I’d be ok with just liability - despite maxing all the regular cars out.

Just did the same. Insurance was about the same as it would have been adding him to our GTI. Surprised to learn it wasn't very expensive.

944 won’t cost much. My son’s first car was a 96 Mustang GT and the insurance was cheap. His 2012 BMW at 18 is double.
I’d give costs, but I don’t know. my wife pays the bills… I just hear the complaining.

Bring him to an AX right away. This gets him into the club and teaches him driving skills while getting his jones for speed in a controlled environment Tobay Beach is close.

My sons first car was a Miata. Second a 944S. Third an 88 911 which he still has. He paid for them all and kicks my butt on any AX course.

Got my son an inexpensive 99 Boxster.... I ended up driving it as he took my Passat.... Stick lost its practicality during day to day driving...... Kids today....

My son's first car was a 1984 944...which he and I spent a summer rehabbing - great father son bonding project!

I registered the car (in Vermont) in my name, with my son listed as "co-owner," and insured both of us, with my son as the "second driver." Worked fine!
