Air Cooled C4 vs C2

Assuming the same car otherwise, what are your thoughts on the value of a C4 over a C2?

To me, a C4 is worth less because of the added weight and complexity. But my opinion is not universal.

964 or 993?

A 964 C4 is a very complex (expensive to repair) AWD system. 964 C4s are worth less than 964 C2s.

993s are more of a wash with equal values. A 993 C4S widebody would be the exception, and is generally worth more than all other 993s except for turbos and RS variants.

So many folks get into a 964 C4 at a "steal" of a price, then something breaks..

It's a shame, I actually like the cars even if they are heavy and slow, same reason I like AWD Subaru wagons. I've also lived where there is lots of snow and steep hills, might have something to do with it.

The 964 Carrera 4 to me is a classic - so much so I probably would trade my clean '75 for one if it were the right one. However, every single one I have seen needed severe work to the driveline in terms of the AWD system, warning lights on the dash lit up like a Christmas tree, and a severely leaky engine. I have yet to come across one that I would purchase, but to me it is still a special car (probably because it was the bees knees when it came out in '89 and I was a senior in highschool).

My deal was I thought the C4's just looked better. I now understand better the servicibility issues, thank you!

The only thing is: Count "bees knees"? Splain to us.

Thanks for cuing him in - I guess it's an old saying - also meaning the real deal, high quality, etc.

People like them because of "weight distribution" but weigh in the ends is no fun for me with the effect on moment of inertia. I would strongly prefer arse-heavy :-)
I think the C4s are worth less.
Perhaps he opposite for 997s. For now
