$75,000.00 911sc

No affiliation. You couldn't build it for that! (you could build it for half that). OK, maybe that's unfair and I really, really, really apologize if the seller is on here and is just trying to get his money out but OMG.... really.

Is there a specific thread where we poke fun at ebay auctions? Maybe this can be the start of one!

At least the seller has 50% positive feedback. Or, well, 50% negative feedback. Suppose it depends if you're an optimist or a pessimist.

Very observant. So that explains it. It's a $55,000.00 911SC with a $20,000.00 paint job.

From the pics it's beautifully done as what I can see.

So, it's best interest to keep it stock rather than cloning to RS or RSR as for resale value?

Now it's obo

I think it should be worth more than stock, because what has been done appears to be to a high standard. Everyone loves a good backdate, it probably looks good and sounds good and would be fun to own.

But not 75k.

EDIT - I went back and looked at the pictures, and yes, sure enough, it's pretty nicely done. Bumpers, hood, decklid, all fit well, and they rarely do - that could take a big chunk out of 20 grand right there, if you paying shop rate! Plus the rest of the paint job looks good in the pictures, properly done.

So I'll do the math:

15k for a decent SC
5k to turn what he thought was a decent SC into a decent SC
20k for paint (and lets assume bumpers, hood, duckbill, and lots of restoration/detail/polish window frames/etc. also filled the sunroof, removed flag mirrors)
8.5 for motor build (well, refresh).
Throw another big wad of cash at it to take care of a million other details, tires, headers, etc. and yeah, you're deep into the wrong side of 50k.

So it's probably worth $40k. But would sell for $30k

You have to do this to a car 'cause you love it, and you're going to keep it for long enough that you get some of your money's worth out of it.

IMHO.

That car was built about a year and a half ago at our shop for a friend.
It was then sold.
Currently working on my wife's '72 T sleeper while amassing parts for my IROC look.

Some RS cars built on SC's have recently sold for well north of 75k. A lot depends on the quality of build. If this one is done properly with real metal panels its worth good money.

Check this one for 85k: Autosport Designs

It looks like a really well built car... nice job!

Can you share with us, the source of the fenders, hood, decklid, and bumpers? Either they started out really with a really nice fit or you spent a lot of time fitting them?

I can see from the pics the proper front bulkhead was used, so I am guessing steel hood.

I always say that I'm a "mate for life" type when it comes to my cars. I plan on keeping them forever, so I don't mind putting a lot into them. For me though it's less about the money and more about the time since I do my own work. I put hours and hours and hours and hours into a car. Sometimes every weekend for months on end. Thank goodness I have a supportive wife! I have a 1969 912 project that I am going to start on soon that has some significant rust issues. I was just telling the wife last night that this isn't an "hours and hours" type of investment of time, more like "years and years"! My latest saying is not "mate for life". I now say "dust or rust" - as in I'm going to keep my car until either I'm a pile of dust or it's a pile of rust, whichever comes first. Last night I took a fun spin in my 1972 914 after fixing a problem that had it set aside for two months. As I got out of the car I gave her a pat on the dash and made her this promise, "Dust or rust baby... dust or rust".

I was in the minority with my opinion of the value on this one, but here's a simliar (though it has a lot more money in the engine) car that the Pelican peanut gallery gave high value to. If so, such builds are worth some money in the current market:

I gave pretty high points to that one, too. Did he end up putting a price tag on it?

Guys, I may be getting old but...that is a 73...not a SC. The car has a SC 3.0 its not a 911SC.
$75k for a longhood/ nicely done RS tribute is a great price.

Would cost $100k to restore a longhood back to OE.

Am I missing something here?

Guys
Sorry for the late reply.
The car did start out as a clean straight "sunroof" 1983 SC. I purchased the car in 2008, and sold it to a gentleman who requested a '73 RS look. It took just under a year for the transformation.
We backdated the front section properly, installed a nice long hood and fenders, and massaged the bumpers.
The car was stripped, and all body seals replaced. The owner is an exceptional body man and painter.
Kudos to our host from whom I purchased the Euromeister wheels, body moldings and seals, headliner, carpets, door panels, axle and brake rebuild kits, and other miscellaneous bits.
Seats from Italian Auto. Belts from D5Concepts. Bumpers from Better Bodies. Ducktail from Gary Fairbanks. ERP and Weltmeister suspension.
SSI's, Bursch exhaust - since replaced, and other bits from my inventory.
Car weight 2489 # allowing for 180 driver weight and 15 gal of fuel. Corner balanced, lowered, etc.
fun factor...priceless.

Jonny I use to have a little shop just outside Brantford Ont, but hi taxes and lo winter temps sent us to Fl.

I think you mean a Stratton ducktail. Fairbanks builds 915 gearboxes.

Shame to spend all that time and money getting it dressed up like that and then not enjoy it, huh ?

Money notwithstanding. Looks like it sold, would be nice to know the final price.
