Price check, 1970 911T project
 

I have a 1970 911T, Jan 1970 build date that I'm thinking of selling. It was orignally purchased new by my uncle. It was running and driving up until 5~ years ago when the clutch cable let go and it has sat since. The car is an all original survivor, but needs some work now. Floorboards & rockers need replacement, I have NOS replacement rockers. Engine and 5spd trans are original and have 100,xxx miles on them. Interior is not too bad, dash is perfect.

Any opinions on a fair asking price?

Nice looking original car - don´t sell it for less than 35K - I would buy it if I had the money!

In todays market once restored and with that history (if you have the books and all) you are probably looking at a 70-80K car.

With floorboards and rockers, you (or the buyer, more accurately) are looking at a minimum of $15K in replacement panels and welding work. I'd say $17-18K will sell the car quickly. In the low 20s, it will take longer to sell.

Really:confused: I'd think more like $10-12k with all that metal work. If rust free then maybe $18k but nice driving longhoods are only low 20's at the mo.

10-12k? That will sell in minutes!! 20k easy sell. 25k within a week. Better pics on rockers and floors and 30k if ok.

This is kinda fun. Like guessing the value of a stock that just went public.

It is fun. Some of us have actually purchased 911s in the past few months. Others have seen big asking prices. There's a real randomness to the market right now. Oddly, color is a huge factor in pricing. In my experience, Irish Green is a +5% color, Tangerine is a +20% color; red is a -15% color. Sepia? Don't ask.

That is the giant value killer right there.

Floors and rockers mean complete dis-assembly, then paint. Just the paint alone is $10k+ for the job done right.

You could take a chance and not paint the whole thing, but I doubt you're going to get away under $10k in any case.

And if you can see rust like I see rust, the rest of the car ain't far behind.

Full disassembly, strip, fix rust, bring back up to original paint color, reassemble. You'd be upside down even if you got the car for nothing.

$18k +/- seems about right. I see quite a bit of rust and bubbles in much of the exterior paint - not cheap to put right. The plus is it looks like the interior is in pretty good shape.

When a nice driver early T runs around $25k to $30k, its tough to get much more than $18k in this condition.

This car could be a slippery slope and tough to recover your restoration investment - with 120k miles it could probably use an engine, transmission, and suspension/brake rebuild, and at least some paint touch up (plus all the rust repair), and it will never be a low mile original and the deep pocket guys like S or E's...

Well with all the stated enthusiasm for paying $25K and up for the rusty one, I thought the $21K eBay car would sell immediately to one of you guys. But here it is 6-1/2 hours later and it hasn't sold!

Go figure.

I am a little surprised that one hasnt sold. Horrible paint, but looks fairly solid. Maybe closer to $15k is realistic?

Thanks everyone for the info and advice. From the rockers up the car is solid, but it will need the entire floor, rockers and rear wheel wells replaced to do it right. I think with the rust issues, but the fact it is a one family car, numbers matching, desirable color, all original car. $10,000 would be a fair asking price.

I just wish I had the time and money to invest in it now. I think I will put it up for sale, otherwise it will just continue to sit and that does no good.

I don't think you will have any problem getting $10k for it. I would put it out there more like $12-15k and be negotiable. You might be pleasantly surprised. It's the guys who take a position of "Sorry, $11,500 isn't enough, I said $12k, FIRM" who sit on cars for a long time.

A very reasonable suggestion.
