Are all the good cars just gone?
Is it just me or has the market for good fairly priced 911īs just vanished.
I bought a nice 87 venetian blau Carrera with 27K miles a couple of years ago and a nice 911 SC in Caramel Brown last year. Both for a fair price. All I see now here on Pelican and ebay, Craigslist etc is either complete crap not worth looking at or just insanely high priced! Are people keeping their cars? Good 911īs have become to expensive, imo. Cheers, Christian |

Yes, you are correct - all the good cars have vanished because you guys keep buying them all and shipping them out the of States.

Ha ha, good one! Remember where they came from...but seriously. Look at mobile.de.
A decent SC costs 25.000 euros. The nice ones 30.000 plus. If you see a good car to a fair price...it is gone the minute it is put up for sale....and most that are put up for sale are really messed up cars that nobody in the Porsche community would touch with a 50 foot pole 10 years ago. A year ago there were 10+ 959īs for sale. Now none! I bet it is a new form of terrorism to us who love the real 911īs! ![]() |

Hi
No CountD, is not totally wrong, many go overseas.
You must understand the cars were made in Germany, but most (over 50%) were sold in the US. So no wonder they are going back, plus Europe had rust more then the states. Now the cars are approaching 25 plus years, it's call supply and demand. Supply is low demand high. Lets face it to some people mostly in Europe it's a good place to put your money....stock markets suck and 2% on savings ......what do you expect? Most were daily drivers in there day, new Porsches are over the top expensive. But they can be found, you just must look longer, pay more yes, and try to find good bodies first....the engine can be dealt with...but no one is stupid, I found nice cars but because of the Internet everybody has a money car....asking more then they should. |

Yes!
impact bumpers are the next to go up in value, imo. They're not making them anymore and the newer ones no matter how fast and elegant just aren't as much fun in the visceral sense. So the window may be closing, what to do. Keep searching and be persistent.

Couple of years ago I sold my Chiffon/brown '86 coupe as I headed in a different direction in cars. Now I am looking again for and '84 thru '86 911 coupe (no black, Guards red or gray)
It is not easy to find a good stock car. Many are mucked up with personal bad taste. And what the heck is up the the "new" asking prices? Am I missing something? I'm not going down that road even if I don't get one. Last edited by Cal44; 12-17-2012 at 05:47 AM.. |

As a recent buyer, and potential seller, the $20,000 air cooled Porsche is becoming the $30,000 Porsche. Look at the number of postings for wanted to buy. Look at how many people are wanting a 912 all of a sudden.
Unmolested cars are few and far between.

Agree with CountD. There are just fewer nice examples here, many have been shipped back to Europe. Perhaps when the nice ones are mostly gone here (or, those that have them are going to hold on to them), you'll have to start looking around Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, etc, to find the one you want because that's where they'll be.

Keep Digging
It takes persistence. I had been looking for a 964 coupe in my general area for the better part of three years without seeing many that I was really motivated to move on. After I sold my '74 Targa in September it seemed like there were even fewer cars available (including red or black Targas and cabs).
I just did a bit more work and finally found the car I was looking for via CL. It was a listing I had ran across in May which wasn't up for that long but which I saved because it included the owners phone number. Having nothing to lose, I called the owner out of the blue in October only to find that he still had the car and that he was interested in selling it if he could. I went to see the car which was about 60 miles away and wound up negotiating a good deal on a two owner car with records back to new that had less than 32K miles on it. If you continue to dig - and play amatuer detective - you will get results. For instance, I am not sure how many folks on this board are aware, but there is a collector in southern NJ (known primarily for his Targa top restoration service) who has been quietly selling off his collection over the last six months. The cars aren't listed on Pelican, nor on anything like Autotrader - just on CL. Keep looking - and digging. They are out there.

I looked for over a year when in between.
Try autotempest for a multiple search engine. You may get lucky.

Porschephiles are like Alfa owners ... A.L.F.A. .... Always Looking For Another. For each new enthusiast a few more cars maybe potentially removed from the market.

I might be a little bias here, but I know of no car collectible or otherwise that is so much fun to own, drive, work on or go up in value then the Air Cooled 911 cars...
Seriously, the 1965-1973 long hood are great...then all the way to 1998... Are great cars....I think most have bottomed out and now steady going up some more then others but they are all going up for the above reasons...and because new cars are getting so expensive and are just deprecating assets....my 2 cents... |
