964 rsa

Hi, I have an opportunity to buy a really nice RSA but am having trouble placing a value on it due to the very tastfully done modifications. I believe the car was purchased with the intent of being a DE car but was hardly used as such due to health issues of the owner. 23K mile car, red, body and paint in perfect condition. Options include A/C and LSD. Modifications: Fiske wheels and Toyo tires, originals not available. Seats replaced by high end Sparcos with 5 point harness. Originals not available. Welded in roll cage, halon fire system, rensport aluminum floor panels, pedals etc. Lightened flywheel and a few other minor mods. I still need to get the full details. This is not some beat up DE car. Everything was done to show level quality and looks like a show car. Basically a street hot rod that could be taken to the track occasionaly. I will provide additional details as I get them. I'm guessing in stock condition this car would be 60K+? I am told there was about 20K in upgrades. Please let me know what you would pay for this car.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

If its the car i'm thinking of, its very nice. I believe its currently owned by a gentlemen who has multiply Porches. Does this car still have speakers but no radio? I would easily pay 45k plus

TargaT 06-19-2013 11:32 AM

Thanks, probably the ca,r seeing as you are in the local area. Not sure about the radio. I have not looked it over thoroughly yet.

The only thing to think about in this case is the fact that with a car that will become more collectible as time goes on, any modifications -- tasteful or otherwise -- aren't going to actually add to the value of the car. So $20k in add-ons doesn't equate to $20k in value 10 years from now. If anything they will detract. That said, if they are reversible modifications for the most part, your investment will be safe because these are going nowhere but up. -- Matt

I recently had gone through the valuation process on my car after it was stolen and stripped. Mine had 83k on the clock and slightly less modified (roll bar instead of full cage and everything was reversible) the valuation based on an independent appraisal was $52k. Don't know what the mileage will do but I would guess $5-6k additional.

the mods add 0 to the 'value' imho, however tasteful they may be, they are nothing particularly special nor unique

^^^this.

On a limited-edition vehicle, the highest sales price will be for a fully-original car. Every add-on, tasteful, purposeful, whatever - SUBTRACTS from value.

The RSAs will probably be colllector cars. This one I'd try to grab for well below market and return it to fully stock. The investment made to get it there will most likely be paid back with increased value.

What he said...

Sell the racing goodies to fund the return to originality and/or extra coin on top. A 23k original mile no wreck RSA, maybe $45k+?

A 23k original RSA is now into the $75s...I'd buy them all day long at $45...

That's a bit of an optimistic figure ... Or maybe I'm a fool for not buying the RSA for $40k I saw for sale recently. Or the other one I saw for $46k.

Matt Monson 06-30-2013 03:42 PM

I agree. That number is over the top. This is an RSA and not a RoW RS.

TargaT 07-02-2013 09:57 AM

Thanks for all the inputs. I will likely try and buy the car for 50K. I believe he has some of the original parts and would try and aquire the rest during my ownership. At this point I would keep the car as is since somebody has gone through a lot of effort to get it this way, and it is really nice.

Thanks, if I move ahead I will post pics.

Joe

Early congrats to you Joe! An RSA is on my short list of Porsches I want to die with. Please do post pics when you get in the seat. -- Matt

Finally bought the car. I will turn it back to original over time. The wheels are actually 3 piece Kinesis, really nice. So key things on my search are original Cup 1 wheels 7/8s and original front seats. If anybody know of any please let me know. At the same time I will start listing some of the race goodies over the coming weeks.
I will post pictures at a later date as the current owner is keeping it in storage for me till the winter breaks.

congrats

Im sure you are aware of the risks, I wouldent personally feel comfortable with a full cage in a street car.

Those prices sound cheap. Crazy prices are being asked for these in the last year or so. There is one on Rennlist for 175k !!!

Personally I don't think they are worth close to an ROW 964 RS which truly are special cars.

On the same subject it looks like now these cars (964 RS) are over 25 yeas old they are beginning t be imported via Canada.

TargaT 03-05-2014 11:34 AM

Regarding the roll cage, I probably used the wrong terminology. It is really a roll bar with angled supports
Joe

Matt Monson 03-05-2014 04:36 PM

Not the correct seats, but really bad ass RS seats...

panzerfaust 03-09-2014 09:56 PM
