Price check 1988 triple black cab. Nice car, salvage title.
We’ve had the car for 9-10 years or so. 185k miles, G50, dash is perfect, leather sports seats are typical for the age of the car. Body is very nice and black with no signs of rust. Top is reasonable, but with a broken main bow. Its still fully functional in manual mode though. Cherry 16” polished Fuchs with nearly new tires.
The car has been on non opp for several years. Mostly because we have 3 other 911’s and I haven’t felt like dealing with the smog on it. Ive started it and or driven it several times over the years around the neighborhood. Depending on the oil level she will blow some smog at startup, but I don't remember it smoking while driving. The engine needs some tuning, possibly injector cleaning is my guess. G50 has no issues and still shifts great.. I planned to get it back on the road, but with the addition of the 993 cab to our family not long ago, it doesn’t make sense now. With some TLC, it would make a really nice daily driver. I would hate to part it out because of that, but I may depending on what I am offered whole and as is. Got any idea on what a reasonable price would be for such a car? David |

My opinion 12-14k
I would shoot for 14k and settle for any offer over 12k
The salvage title really sinks the value.

I definitely would not consider parting it out. It sounds good enough to sell as a whole. But with the salvage title, higher miles, and some issues I would put it on the market for $16,000 OBO and be willing to negotiate from there.

As a point of reference about 9 months ago I purchased an '89 cab with 160k+ miles, a clear title, a working top and a couple of small issues for $12.5k. While I believe values have increased since then, with the salvage title I think you would be lucky to get for yours what I paid for mine.

Granted mine has a 915 trans
I just purchased a 1985 RoW 1 owner with just over 100k for 12,800. No title issues, no rust, original paint, etc... The G50 should bring a little more $$$$ but the Salvage title and high miles take a $$$ hit.

Soirry to be a naysayer but with those high miles and salvage title have someone drive behind you to check for smoke on downshifts.
If the car is without a documented top end unless you get a non educated buyer you should part it out you will make much more $. |

Parting it out is 'such sweet sorrow'. I have a similar situation, an '85 coupe with a ton of miles a small oil leak, and a rebuilt front end. No salvage title for some reason. But, has a decent repaint, no rust, runs great, and will smoke at startup if I previously just shut it off. These oldies like to idle a bit in the driveway, get the oil back in the tank.

The most important thing at this point is to get it out there for sale, as there is someone who will cherish is, detail it, tune it, get it up to spec, and have a chance at their dream car. At this point, at almost a decade of your ownership, I would send it on as you won't miss it and it will make someones day.
I mean, sure, you want the money, but I suspect at between $10-$12K it would sell fine even with that mileage and then you don't have to deal with it - especially parting it which is a major headache and takes time, time, time, and space. Not to mention shipping all that stuff. Give it a good home to someone else who will take care of it. And do it soon. To someone who has dreamed at owning this car for the right price, the mileage and salvage won't matter, but I would pass it on for $10K as you would get more than this for parts, sure, but man it takes time. |

Thanks all for the feedback. Honestly, we would be happy with around ~10K for the car. I certainly would prefer not to part the car. I really think its way to nice despite the salvage title. I was told it was a theft recovery and from everything I have seen on the car over the years, I don't think there was any major body damage.

We don't really want to sell the car, but something has to give when you are trying to take care of 7+ cars as I do all my service on all our cars ![]() I'll get the car up here once I get a chance to pull her out and document it with pictures. Again, we appreciate all the feedback. David |

Several people have asked that I post pictures. I finally got a chance to pull her out of the garage and take some today. Let me know if the pictures change any of your thoughts good or bad.
I think the car would be good for someone who would be interested in turning their own wrenches. Maybe buying Waynes book and going through things. In the end they would have a really nice driver. Zenfolio | Light Dance | 1988 Porsche 911 David |
