How does this sound.

I'm looking at an '87 911 cabriolet. It's black upgraded exhaust ,original exhaust comes with the car also. $3000.00 in wheels and tires, new carpet (from Porsche) Mechanically all sorted out, great maintenance record. Negotiated to $14.500.00 . Now my issue it has 238000 miles on it. Drives great. any opinions if this is a good deal . I'm on the fence

Thanks everyone

The Japanese wheels don't do much for me, but that's a matter of personal taste, as is the Turbo tail on a non-turbo car.

The key to value is not the wheels or cosmetic details, but how it checks out for compression and leak down, driving dynamics and general "tightness" as judged by a qualified Porsche expert.

I have had discussions with several sellers in the past who made statements like "it has $3000 worth of wheel and tires" and I've replied with 'I'll buy my own if you'll keep those and knock $3000 off the price. Odd, but that never happens.

One more random point: at 238K miles, you understand that you're one of the few prospective buyers, so plan on keeping the car forever or dealing with a greatly reduced buyer population when/if it becomes time to sell.

Yes, that's why I'm fence sitting.

The price seems about right. But as Tech said with that mileage it is a long term member of your garage.
If you've always wanted a 911 Cab in your fleet pursue it. Otherwise it's just another 911. I saw never buy unless it is exactly what you want, as a vehicle.

I would love to have a targa again. I also want a Midyear. If I found a high mileage well sorted '74-75 targa at a reasonable price I would buy it. But I'm not dying for one.

87 cab

Well the car needs nothing to pass the safety. 3 years ago engine was opened up ,964 studs installed ,resealed ,compression good, brakes all around last year. I cant find any '87 cab with any mileage , anywhere and it's 30 minutes from my home for under $21000.00 think I'm going to go for it.

How are the top (~$1500-1800 installed) and seats? Do all the gauges and lights work?

If the engine had a top end recently, and you like the color, tail, and can live with the wheels, it sounds like a reasonable driver.
