VIN plate question

Why does the plate on my 930 say "911 SC"?

Not a factory tag, but a grey market import.

I've heard someone mention that to me before. Is this a common thing?

Extra crazy as there wasn't even an SC made in 1984!

Another vin mystery, the car is currently at a local body shop undergoing a body restoration. The windshield has been re-installed but I noticed there is no vin plate on the right pillar location. Here's the funny part, before I took the car in there WAS a vin plate in that location. However, there are no holes or rivets anywhere in that area. Is it possible someone had a vin plate made for this car before and it was just simply tucked under the rubber glass molding and it fell off when the glass was removed?? The owner did some research and he tells me RoW cars do not have plates in the windshield location. Is my mind playing tricks on me? I'm confused..

RoW 930's did not have a VIN tag fixed on the window pillar so perhaps it was tucked under the rubber molding during U.S. conversion.

Thank you for your input. I hope I find the plate somewhere. Is it required to have the vin somewhere visible?

Technically yes. I put one on my grey market car for 2 seconds just to take a photo for the DOT report. It hasn't been on for the subsequent 30 years I've owned it. Don't worry about it.
