Opinion and/or PPI req'd in Salt Lake city

Dear fellow members,

the search for my first Porsche is still ongoing. Three unsatisfactory PPIs later I'm looking at these two cars.
1979 Used Porsche 911 SC at Global Car Marketing Serving Salt Lake City, UT, IID 11393733
1982 Used Porsche 911 Carrera at Global Car Marketing Serving Salt Lake City, UT, IID 11584382

The more expensive one comes with the disadvantages of non-original colour and vinyl-seats.
The cheaper one has 200K miles and a broken dash, but also considerable work done on it incl. a rebuild by motormeister (I know their reputation is dodgy).

Rather than paying for another two PPIs outright I'd rather pay a knowledgable member to go over there and have a look, perhaps to be followed by a formal PPI.
And where to turn for that? So far I've only seen Concourse recommended for this.

Thanks in advance.
Daniel

SLC visit today

I was in SLC this week and stopped by GCM today. Seems like a reputable dealer. I looked at both cars. Each has their own plus and minus. For the prices I do not feel either is a real exceptional deal or very original. My taste maybe different than yours - I can give you some more feedback if you like.

I just bought my first 911 in April 2013 after looking at a lot of cars. In the end, originality was key for me so I found 1985 that needed a little bit of work but was all original. That was right for me and may not be for you. Unfortunately, I was ready to buy 13 months before I found my car and during that time I almost settled for a couple that were not quite right. In the end I am very glad I waited.

The common advice from Pelican members is be patient and buy the best car you can afford. If you have any doubts about either car at GCM then don't do it.

Good luck.

Shockingly I'm only now seeing your reply. Thanks a lot! Would love to know more about your observations. Will pm you for that.

Air Power Racing in Tooele knows Porsches better than anyone in the SLC area.
