In addition to what johnvan8 says, it's a smog thing. '74 is the last year in Colorado that a car qualifies for collector status and doesn't need to get tested every 2 years. That way I can install the 2.5l carbed engine I was talking about over the weekend.
|
'74 and '75 in most states that have smog testing are exempt. I don't think that price is that far off, as I have seen mid-years trading for more than that with rust issues. $17K for that car is not too bad considering it is almost 40 years old and it cost around $12k to begin with (40 years ago), plus it's a coupe.

Here is a good test for mid year value

the ice green is pending sale within an hour of posting....
|
i bet ...that was totally UNDERPRICED .. NICEY Nice narrow body in one of the hottest colors.
|
That 75 is apples and oranges to the ice green car.
You could spend $10k+ on the red one and it might not be as good as good as the green one. Color, original paint, running & driving, records, tools, etc. The value difference between a 75 and 77, all other things being equal? That is an interesting question. |
I think the thread title isieading to people who jump ahead and don't read the whole conversation. There are plenty of midyears worth over $20k. But they aren't the clapped out turd that started this thread.

My freshly restored (paint, rs spec motor and interior):D 76 I picked up last year for 16k keeps looking better and better..

From what I can see, there are very few non-Carerra mid-years that are worth $20k. The bubble has pushed a lot of cars pretty high up the resale ladder, but the middies still have their issues - rust and engine hassles. Even when the engine stuff is addressed, they still don't make $20k, IMO, unless they are spotless. |
Eric,
Is doesn't take a very nice 911 of any year to get to $20k, spotless cars are an instant sale at $35-40K. Clapped out turds are not worth discussing. Phil |

Christian,
Are you really PML? That '77 sold in under an hour yesterday because $22k was WAY under market for that car. You don't know what it is really worth because it wasn't priced apporopriately. Your claim fails based on worthless "evidence". |
Ice Green baby .....

Clean, solid, original examples of collectible cars carry a premium whether it's a 911, Roadrunner, CRX Si, or whatever.
That 923 was one of the nicest ones floating around which is why it brought the price it did. The 77 Ice Green 911 was a decent, original car, but it wasn't one of the "nicest" ones around and IMO would have struggled to do much more than what it brought at this point in time. However, I do think it was priced "right" and was in line with its condition and desirability. 2cam |
