I think when a dealer, even a questionable dealer, takes a car, and repairs it a bit and cleans it up, it's not really a flip.

Sure it is. That's what dealers do, flip merchandise. Doesn't matter whether it's shower curtains or cars.

What are you thinking the term means??

Dealers buy wholesale and sell retail. Flippers, usually with no resale license, find a good deal on a car and make a profit on it. There's a difference, even if it is slight.

There are flippers with and without integrity. There are dealers with and without integrity. They are both just people, and the character of the person determines who they really are.

I've just tired of the constant flipper bashing around here. A thread like this is just crying over spilled milk because someone bought a car. We don't even know that we are going to see this car again. Maybe an enthusiast got it as a keeper. The bitter assumption that a flipper now has it is just wasted bandwidth IMO.

Another one on Matt's side here. What dictates a flipper? What length of time must you own a car before you sell it and are/aren't declared a flipper? How much work must be performed? This negative flipper crap is a bunch of poo.
We're all flippers, unless you still own every car you ever bought. And besides, capitalism isn't a bad thing. Why do we criticize someone who finds a good deal, and then capitalizes on it? Jealousy?

Food for thought.

Well, I don't know about owning every car you ever bought. I bought my BRZ for $28k. A year later I sold it for $23,500. Clearly not a flip.

Ha, same here, but EVERY vehicle I have ever bought I sold for less than I paid for it (probably wouldn't be the case if my turbo were for sale, however), so I guess I am what you would call a "back flipper"?!

Hey Matt, no one says you have to make money to be a flipper! I like the backflipper comment!

Nonsense.

"Flipping" has a connotation. Ignoring it to suit your own sensibilities doesn't change that connotation.

Buying a car, driving it for 15 years, then selling it for less than you purchased it for will never be called a flip by anyone. Ever.

Sure, there are plenty of folks that deal in cars on PP and don't like the term, because of the negative connotations. Well, man up. If folks who flip don't like the stink-eye, then they could make money some other way, right?

Now watch out, Eric, or you will receive a "flip" of a different sort (probably can't get away with flip-off smileys here though, given the recently posted warning)!

What's the difference between a flipper and a spinner?
