1998 Porsche 911 C2S 993 13,000 Miles

It may be time to part with my silver/black 1998 Porsche 911 C2S 993 13,000 Miles. Last of the air cooled 12/97 production one of the last made! Pristine condition 18' wheels Red Calipers Any idea or offers as to what it is worth?

You can get what the market will bear. My WAG is somewhere @ $40k-$44k.

Fantastic.....

the final year of the true air-cooled 911, in mint condition. It's almost a shame it has not been driven/enjoyed more, but it is nice to see mint examples.

The economy is tough, but this is a blue chip car. I'd shoot high, you can always come down.

A quick auto Trader list pulled up multiple '98's at $60k+ with higher miles.

I'd start at $65k and see what happens. That's still low to me when a new base 911 is over $77k....

True dat, you can always come down. The problem with starting too high, though, is that you risk alienating potential buyers who think you are smoking crack.

$65K appears to be 997 money, so you will be looking for a Porsche collector, rather than a driver - someone who wants a true "last-of-the-aircooled Porsches" car and is willing to pay a premium for it. Just for laughs, here's a 997 with comparable mileage for a lot less.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/548910-2006-porsche-carrera-s-coupe-only-8-808-miles.html

It's a beautiful car, good luck with whatever you decide.

His car is a 993...

The last of the true air cooled coupes, and it appears to be mint. Sure, I'd love to see it in an individual "signal" color (viper green , arrow blue, etc.) , but silver is popular for a reason.

A 997 is a water cooled act "II" (996 being act I) 1st generation trial & error water cooled vehicle (IMHO). After reading of all the 996/997 engine issues (IMS, RMS, porous cases, etc., etc.), I'd venture a guess that the 996 & 997 will follow the lead of the '74 to '77 2.7 mag case flat six as the worst 911 engine in Porsche history.

I sincerely hope the new 9A1 flat six is better.

The 993 has the well documented carbon build up intake issue, but I think it is otherwise a fairly solid example of an air cooled 911 and will appreciate rather than depreciate - just my 2 cents.

G450X - I'm with you. I'd rather own a 993 than a 996 or even a 997. But for the average luxury sports car buyer, "newer is better" and for the same money, the choice between mint low miles 1998 car and mint low miles 2006 car, the newer car will win out every time.

Cheers

Nice car!

I'll be very surprised if it brings less than $50k, and shocked if it doesn't end up crossing the Atlantic back to its German motherland! The mileage alone will do it, and in my experience the color combo virtually guarantees that once posted you'll have Euro buyers beating down your door (via the internet). That said, I personally don't subscribe to the throw a huge number on it and hope somebody bites routine...to me it's much better for all parties involved to start with a price very near to your "drop-dead" number (of course you've gotta move a few bucks so that everybody feels like they're giving a little, but as somebody else said earlier, the huge asking prices just have to alienate otherwise serious buyers).

And despite a couple posters on this forum telling me I was crazy and that you can buy low mileage C2S's in the 30s (to which my honest reply was/is, find 'em b/c I'll buy every clean low mileage C2S w/ a price that starts with a 3!!!), I recently sold a very similar car w/ approximately twice the miles for a little under $50k, so I don't see you having a problem getting more than that.

Target the collector market. Maybe take it to a Porsche concourse or something...

I saw a car with 9k on the clock at a dealer asking 70k.

The issue is how quick/ desperate are you to sell..

Remember the big reds are rare on c2s but very desireable.

"I was looking about 4 years ago, in a much better economy and I found plenty of low mileage, 1 owner, excellent condition examples at <50k."

George, when you're finished with the "crack pipe", please pass over here

4 years ago, a car of this quality would be north of $70k, from the usual suspects that deal in low mileage, pristine condition 993 S's.

We here in the USA aren't as picky when it comes to colors.

The Europeans are off of the color silver . . . . . so getting top dollar from them may be a bit tough . .. . white is the 'in' color as of course, black is.

Interested. Sent you a private message. Please do get back to me if still for sale.

Hoping everything is original. Doubtful those are big reds, but more likely factory option red calipers (?)

thanks
