964 C2 Coupe 5-speed value?

I'm the happy owner of a black/linen 1991 C2 coupe with a 5-speed (101k on the ODO) and am wondering about the current value. There are zero for sale on Ebay in the US. The latest issue of Panorama had zero of them in the back classifieds. Autotrader and Cars.com do not have any. There are plenty of cabs, C4's, Targas and Tips around.

Thanks

Mike B

Is it original and do you have pics?

mike9186 03-24-2014 08:12 AM

It is original and very well cared for. I've since added Cup I replica wheels.

$31-32K if it is a later 91 with the head gasket or if the head gasket fix is documented. Less if you keep the replica wheels on it.

Between 30 and and high 30s depending on the condition and original accessories like books, tools etc. Just my opinion of course.

Thanks guys for your input. I've really enjoyed the car but after almost 4 years of ownership I'm toying with the idea of a change. The car is in great shape and I have obsessively cared for it. Here is an incomplete list of things I've done to the car.

1. Valve adjustment @ 94k
2. New Plugs, coils, distributor caps and rotors, coils and plug wires in 2011
3. New Fuel Filter
4. Steve Wong Chip (93 Octane and Cat bypass)
5. Cat bypass installed (still have original Cat)
6. 4-piston calipers installed in back (also added the correct proportioning valve)
7. Chain Housing door and tensioner gaskets replaced
8. Dual Distributor belt replaced 2 years ago
9. Replaced original suspension with Bilstein HD's and H&R Green Springs
10. Front Splitter added last summer. Front fascia 'Smile' straightened
11. CUP 1 replica wheels added 2014
12. Intake plenum removed and cleaned
13. Gear box oil replaced every 2 years. Currently has Delvac in it
14. Clutch Master and Slave cylinders replaced 3 years ago
15. Fan and alternator belts replaced last year
16. Oil cooler ballast reistor replaced in 2012
17. A/C ballast resistor replaced 2013
18. Front rotors and pads replaced in 2012
19. Headlight housings cleaned and lamps replaced in 2012
20. Shift tube gasket replaced and shift rod ballcup replaced.
21. 1 failed HVAC vent servo replaced in 2012
22. Brake's bled every 2 years with ATE SuperBlue
23. Replaced Shift boot with newer leather boot
24. Replaced O2 sensor in 2013
25. Replaced Odometer gear in 2010
26. Distributor Vent Kit installed in 2012
27. New Interstate Battery installed in 2013
28. Motor mounts replaced with 993 mounts in 2012
29. Bought tire inflator but still missing factory toolkit
30. Main oil return hose replaced

Are those cup 2 replicas ?? Different.
Appears you have have kept up well with repairs & maintenance.

No too many cars on the market like yours!
I'd price it @ 35-40, sell it to a euro at 40.
Or keep it and sell it later for more.

Everyone marvels at the early 911 market, or SC/Carrera....but 964 market is off the chart.

Good eye Type 911. That pic is from a few years ago (it's what I had handy when I wrote the post) and those are 996/Boxster wheels. They do look like Cup 2's and I actually think they suit the car but I wanted period correct so I got the Cup I replica's. Here is a photo from a few months ago with those wheels installed. It is not as glamorous but you can get the idea.

Original plate wheels will be good to put on the car.

Every 964 C2 I see around here is 125-150k mi and $20-25k. Clearly this car outclasses those.

I think 964's with Fuchs look great.

^^^this

When I was shopping, SCs and 964s were on par, from a price standpoint. Now 964s are pacing 3.2s, and going beyond. Other than longhoods, 964s seem to have had the biggest lift.

That makes sense!

I've had these cars for 20 years, studied them daily, and I never even saw one. PML how can your brain absorb all that info so fast? Or are you just putting random words together? Do you really know what Fuchs is or 964?

Fuchs will not mount on a 964. Other than that, you've got a point.

Mind-blowing what is going on in certain segments of the used 911 market if the estimates here are true.

Trying to remember exactly when, (sometime last decade), but I passed on almost the exact car for $12k. Black/black, just over 100k miles and c2 manual. Friend of friend was trading it in and that's what they were giving him. Offered to me for same. Dang it.

prices are going only one direction that is up
keep it as long as you can and if you have to sell it don't settle for less

Second this absolutely. Unless you have your heart set on another model and need to sell this one to finance that purchase, I wouldn't let go of it.

In three years, I have seen the prices sky rocket on these cars. I did PPIs on two different '91 C4s in 2011 either of which I could have purchased for under $20K. Both had under 100K miles and were in good shape with no head gasket leaks. It's difficult - if not impossible - to find 964s at this price anymore in similar condition. This includes 89s which tended to linger on the market then for six months or more, no matter what the condition. Today, even these cars sell fast.

Black can be a tough sell.
You never know.
