1980SC Wreck Value

I have the chance to buy a wrecked SC. Entire front end is demolished. It's been sitting outside for years, and theres really nothing left to do to this baby except part it out. Mostly complete, engine/transmission still in place, gauges, seats, sunroof…all there but they've been exposed to the weather.

I'm thinking at the very least I'm buying a 3.0 with a 915. Sure they'll need rebuilding, but they're nice things to have, even if I'm using them as 'trade' to get a rebuilt engine. I'm guessing I'll be able to sell some other misc. parts off this beast as well, but I'm just trying to get an idea what everybody thinks it's worth?

Thanks guys. Wealth of knowledge here..

Nick

Parting a car is a lot of work. I believe realistically it's worth $4k. Not more. I sold my car last year that had a nice 3.0 in it and a 915, and it wasn't smashed for $6.5K. Really you would want to have the motor/trans for free if you parted it and did all the work and removed, posted, and shipped the parts (all very time consuming, not to mention space consuming). Your call, but I wouldn't pay more than $4k, I would probably pay half that myself.

If you have the space, time and expertise to part the SC it is a money maker at anything up to $5K. There are a lot of parts that can be sold. Just be prepared to have the carcass around for a year or more in order to extract all the goodness.

I would say up to 4k. About 20 percent is the average cost for salvaged car.
