market adjustment for automatic

There is a 964 listed here now with an automatic transmission which got me wondering, what is the decrease in value for a auto for this type of car?

To me it is huge, like 10k or more for 964/993. You buy cars like this generally for the old hands on driving experience, and I cant really see a good market for an auto. Nobody is buying these cars for convenience, after all.

Unless of course for physical disabilities.

Anecdotally, when looking at 993s and 964s (or Boxsters or 996s), when I see a price that seems $3-5k below market, the first I check is if it is a Tiptronic. And it often is.

So I think $3-5k is probably a fair guesstimate.

There is definitely a discount.

Yeah, it as at least 10%, and often more.

This isn't an exclusive trend to 911s either, but rather any enthusiast or long term car. The interesting part is you never see dealers bumping lease residuals based on the leasee spec'ing a MT.

I think for modern cars, it might be going the other way. A used 991 might be more desirable with pdk in several years.

However an auto 964 seems like a tough sell to me. That is why I put my estimate higher, maybe even 25% of the cars value.

The same is true for e36 m3s. The internet is full of cheap nice automatic examples and beat up manuals. Nice manual cars are harder to find.

Maybe.

But Sequential Manuals are a drag on BMWs, Toyota MR2s, and other cars that have them.

I think the early F1 Maseratis are less desirable than the manuals, too -- in this case there were a lot fewer manuals, and the cambiocorsa transmissions eat clutches like crazy -- and are super expensive to replace. (like every 15k miles or so!)

I guess it will depend on the specific car, how well the transmission works, maintenance costs, and rarity.
