1978 Porsche 911 SC Upgrades

I just purchased a 1978 Porsche 911 SC Petrol Blue with black interior, and I am kind of new to Porsche's. What are some upgrades that you guys would recommend. I know that the air conditioner should be upgraded to the rotary screw and the motor has been gone through and the head bolts and chain tensioner have been replaced. I am also thinking about putting the C2 bumpers on the car.
Thanks

I suggest that you post your question in the technical section.

964 bumpers would be a downgrade. First year production of SC - Spend your money keeping it in good and original running order. No need to flush money down the toilet.

EDIT: Cant believe I fell for this....PML's flippin' cousin.

"Oh no, keep it original, sell it to me and buy what you like instead. Tell me how much you want for it and I will wire the money ASAP"

"Smart" way to put your flip up for sale posting ignorant question here that a morning tired Porsche nerd like me just answers without thinking about it.....jeez!

I have a 1973 911 that I just got from my estranged fathers estate. He was stationed over in Germany since the 1970's. It’s a bit wider than the other 73's I have seen and it has the word "Carrera" in script on both sides. It only has 68k KM's on it and it appears to be in fantastic condition. From what I know of my dad he was a bit OCD so the car reflects his compulsive behavior of keeping things in near perfect condition. Its an olive color with near perfect black interior. It came with stacks of service records and his logbook of every fuel fill up, plus 3 keys and the original books. There is also two crates filled with what looks to be spare parts. The records and log book are all in German so I cant really tell you what was done to it. If you read German it may mean something to you.

I had it up on eBay for a couple days but I could not keep up with the auction. I figured I would ask you guys what its worth before I start pulling it apart and putting some more modern bumpers and some bling interior in it. The car has a funny stubby spoiler on the back which I want to replace with a proper big Porsche whale tail. I also dont like the Olive color so I was thinking about painting it black. The local body shop quoted me $3500 to make it black.

What do you guys think?

A few months ago some dude here was looking for a candidate for a V8 conversion -- your old baby-crap green beater sounds perfect.

If not, just widen the fenders for some 18 inch boxster wheels, flat black paint, snazzy-up the interior with some red & white leather seats...maybe one of those cool Strosek noses -- and you will have a winner.

I was thinking that doing that slant nose conversion would really enhance the looks and value. My buddy glasses surfboards and says he can glass one on for me Cheap.

Maybe you should take it to Walker and let him do some magic on it. Flames or a dragon down the sides of it would really pump up the value instead of that boring old Carrera script.

Let's see…a wide '73 in "fantastic condition" with a "stubby spoiler", all the books and records, Carerra script on both sides, crates of parts and an OCD owner? This sounds oddly familiar. How's $10k? I'll wire you the money tomorrow.
Nick

Thanks for the offer Nick. I'll consider it along with all the other offers. I am thinking this car is not worth the hassel of making it into a true Porsche.

To all of those nice board members who have emailed or PM'd me with $10k or there abouts offers.... thanks for the offers but I was kidding around playing off Christian's savvy outing of the original poster.

With all the comments about ethics in flipping on this board I am surprised at the amount of people who seriously thought they could steal a car from an unsuspecting seller. I do mean steal.

What do you think an original 73 RS in Olive Green with all the documentation and log books plus 2 crates of parts in fantastic condition would go for? Somewhere just south of 1/2 a mil?

Keep those $10k offers comming!

Well 25k for a pristine RS with full history IS on the cheap side. No wonders scammers are having a great time.

I bet that you could get 10% of the interested parties to wire you the money and ask them to pick the car up later. Being an attorney, I cant recommend it though

Trader, how about that 959 you told me about that your grandma doesnt drive anymore? Are you still thinking about doing a 944 body conversion on it? If not I would be interested. 50K waiting for you to decide.

PM me if you/she is interested.

She wont let me have it. She said I cant touch it until she's gone. I am still working on her. You're first in line at that price if I get it! I think it now has over 20k Km's on it. Besides what would you do with all those spares it comes with?

Trader220,

If the deals with the other guys fall thru, I have cash and am willing to travel.

Oh, on getting the RS repainted, I would suggest Guards Red, it is the HOT color right now.
