Salvage/Auction Success?
I keep getting excited by sites that seem to have exactly what I want (a '74 or later roller I can hot rod for under $3k, and a drive train out of a smashed up 993), but the auctions are always WAAAY out of date. The most recent one I've ever seen closed a month before I found it.
Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully buy through these guys?

There's a company called copart that allows you to see auctions, link up with a company allowed to bid and bid by proxy. It always seemed a bit suspect to me, and in the auctions I watched, the cars went for close to retail value, even with damage and unknown history.

I think copart and iaa both require a dealers licence. Not 100% sure. Im at both locations in Ct often, but due to my work Im not allowed to buy any salvaged cars.

I think I might end up having to go to a salvage yard to pull this off. I've spoken to LA Dismantlers, Parts Heaven, and 20th Street Auto so far.
